I think it is mostly as some people have professional jobs or work in sensitive environments and wish not to give away their real identity. The web is so open and posting on a forum can leave a digital trail which could in fact be read by current or even future employers.

I had good reason - but after a few months on here my real i.d.got revealed and so i could use my real name but their is one already on here and that would just get bloody confusing - everyone knows who i am that matters and those that don't it's more fun! lol
