Saturday 07th August - Latest News

Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:49 am

As per yesterday the club are still trying to get the deal finalised to sign Lee Naylor, if it can be done by 12.30pm today then I believe he would be eligible for tomorrow.

The club are working hard to bring in Olifinjana for next week but there is a stumbling block and it is his wages of £28k p.w, City want the player, the player wants to come but the club will not pay all of his wages and are trying to strike a deal with Hull over the percentage they will pay.

QPR have made an offer for Chopra, I honestly have not been told how much that offer is for but maybe today we will learn more, but it is the clubs intention not to sell him as Gethin and DJ said yesterday but and there is always a but, every player has a price.

Could Jon Stead still be heading to CCS this transfer window, I have been told from a very reliable source that City are prepared to deal with Ipswich on a player plus cash deal. My source claims that a deal could be done for Ross to go to Ipswich for £500k and Jon Stead coming this way. If the Wolves deal with Keogh is still possible then I think that the Ross to Ipswich deal could be a possibility.

Kevin McNaughton's new contract has been registered with the FA and also Jon Meades has been registered to play as well as the other 3 the club said yesterday.

If we get rid of ross for stread just for the sake of 500k then thats the worst piece of business ever. Stead is fecking gash. :(

Hope the john stead deal doesnt happen hes not good enough even as cover for us and 500 k for mccormack where are ipswich getting these stupid offers from .

Chops and Ross out and Keogh and Stead in would be abysmal business on our part - got I hope it's not true. Unless of course we were to get Naylor, Harewood and Olifijana as well and I'd be slightly happier - but Jon Stead is like ccfclover says absolute gash while if Ross refinds his form is one of the most gifted players in the championship.

Re: Saturday 07th August - Latest News

Sat Aug 07, 2010 9:07 am

So cardiff will be happy to get stead as cover for jay - but then if McCormack goes, who's the cover for Chops ???

are they shooting themselves in the foot here, if this is to be true. We would need Keogh if Ross goes!

so what they are saying is they will give us £1m for Ross ? because Stead isnt worth any more than £500,000.

Remember we bought Jay for £300,000...... :?

I'm still praying we get Olofinjana in, and they can strike a deal with the wages..... although Hull are a big rival this year, so who knows hey!

Re: Saturday 07th August - Latest News

Sat Aug 07, 2010 9:08 am

Lots of if's and but's but Keogh & Olifinjana are the big two.

I'm not against the Stead deal, we need back up for Jay, Ross is on the fringes at best & we have no money. The deal would tick a lot of boxes, my only concern would be that Steads move to Blackpool fell down due to his wage demenads.

It's a shame Koren has fallen off the radar, he could have been the final piece of the puzzle.

I also believe Keane might have switched his attention to Ross on the advice of Kennedy, with Ross on the bench more often than not, he would probably look at leaving. But we need to keep Ross, he's tidy cover for Chops, and he can play wing/midfield if needed.... Jones doesn't need to sell Ross - because he is a versatile player, that can still play a big part here.

I would be gutted if we sold Chopra!

We would need to spend big to replace his goals in the team.

Good to see the club are hard at work.

Naylor would be a decent signing, but its Olifinajana which excites me. although spelling his name is going to be a f'kin nightmare

All these new links have Jones STAMP all over them.

Heaton, ex-Jones signing
Drinkwater - Man U, Jones mates with Fergie
Koumas - likes Jones
Naylor, Olifinjana ex- Wolves played for Jones
Keough - Wolves, and Jones gets on well with Mccarthy
Ipswich links -Jones and keane also have a lot of respect for each other.

There can be no doubt that Jones has total control over who he signs within budget, no interference from the boardroom. In my eyes a good thing.

McCormack and Stead. No a good deal. Stead is decent enough and could play alongside Bothroyd if required Also Mac will be on very good money, so savings there which might make the room on the wage bill for 'Oloffy', but I was sort of hoping the player exchange was Gyepes for Stead !

The deal seems to undervalue mcCormack IMHO and we should be looking for at least £1m as well as Stead, who Ipswich would be willing to offload for next to nothing.

Problem then is we only have 3 strikers left unless we get Keough.

Hmmmmm..........dont fancy Jon Stead in place of Macca!!.Stead has only scored 24 goals in the last 4 years, that averages 6 a season.I would prefer to keep Macca as I reckon he is far better than Stead. Thanks for the update!!

Bloody hell, beginning of last season people were saying Ross was worth 4 mil, now we are willing to let him go for 500k plus jon Stead?! Don't know much about Stead and to be fair to him he has played in the Prem for Blackburn, Sunderland and Sheff Utd and plenty of managers have believed in his potential. He is still only 27 so if DJ could work his magic on him who know what he is cappable of. From Ross's form last season he is clearly not worth 4 mil and a realistic figure would be closer to 1 or 1.5 mil so on reflection it may not be that bad a deal. Lets be fair Ross was poor last season so maybe it is time he moved on. If we manage to Keogh as well we could looking good. I know a bit about Keogh because my mates a Wolves fan and I had him in my fantasy team last year! I reckon he would be very good at this level, he had a run in the Wolves team early last season when they had a few injuries and he did really well. He is only 24 and from what I have seen he is decent player.

It could be that DJ has switched his attention to Jon Stead because Marlon Harewood has been training all week with Blackpool,

http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/black ... 6461812.jp

Jon Stead is a decent player but is a bit of a journey man a little like Jay, similar reputations as under achievers, maybe DJ could work the oracle on him as well, but Ross MacCormack + £500k is a better deal for Ipswich than Cardiff IMO.

But we all know that having cover for Jay is vital so this may result in forcing DJ hand.

A fit and focused Ross is probably our best player, but if even half of his alleged, ahem, re fuelling problems are true ( and last seasons form indicates that way ) then he is a player with far more potential than practical use to us.
Football is such a high tempo sport these days that players have to be athletes. It is relatively easy for a super fit, dedicated team to nullify a skilled player that is not 100% fit. I don`t think a Robin Friday would get as far as the championship these days ( not on a platform ticket anyway) ( one for the oldies there! )
Ross is one of those players , that if the penny dropped, could end up in the prem, but at the moment he seems destined for the bench, or if what Carl says is true, Ipswich.

It is Olofinjana

With regard to Chopra I have said that QPR have put an offer in, we dont know the amount so until then we cant decide if it would be bad business or not.

I believe that if Ross did go in the deal to Ipswich then Stead would be back up to Jay not replacement. But this would depend heavily on another striker coming in to back up Chops. ie Keogh or A N Other.

Ross spends quite a bit of time enjoying himself, alledgedly ;) , so maybe DJ is not too impressed with him on that front either, were'nt a lot of people saying he looked unfit last and overweight last year.

By the way I am a fan of Ross but as DJ and Gethin keep saying they are not looking to sell the 1st 11 from last season, well Ross was not part of the first 11.

Is it likely the Naylor deal will be completed today,Carl?
Would be disappointed to lose Ross but I think Stead could certainly be good back up for Jay. However, I would prefer Keogh.
Ideally, I hope that GJ keeps to what he said and we keep all the current players and only add to the list.

They refused.

I don't like to say too much about players, but I hears Ross wants out, he is not happy as he is not playing, which is fair enough I suppose, you can only keep players hanging around for so long. It's obvious that Ross and Gypes who are both excellent players don't fit into DJ's plans. Both will probably want a move, if we can find decent replacements I can see them going.

This must be what Roy Keene was talking too when he said there are more strikers than Chopra and he had a chat with DJ about something else Thursday morning, he was looking really shifty, so I was worried it was Chopra but this makes sense now.
