Whilst getting over-excited, reading through all the Bellamy posts on here over the last 24hrs, it occured to me that our chances of signing him will depend largely on the man himself, and his determination to play for his hometown club. I'm sure that contrary to the statement released by the club that we have not made contact with Man City, behind the scenes, every effort is being made by the club to secure the signing of Bellers. I believe we won't though, not before the 1st September anyway.
Man City are going to be reluctant to allow him out on loan to anybody, whilst there is still a chance they can get some kind of fee by selling him. And although transfer fees may be agreed with other clubs, the decision ultimately lies with Bellamy on whether he accepts personal terms with said club, or digs his heals in and declines offers because he is so sure he wants to play for us.
Another scenario is Bellamy coming to a mutual termination of his contract with Man City. I've said it before, that this option would very likely appeal to Man City as they will save the wages that they would otherwise have to pay over the remainder of Bellamy's contract [another 3.5yrs? Not sure.]. And seeing as Man City's owners are hardly skint, I'm sure they wouldn't hold out for a fee. But how likely this option would be, only more knowledgable people can say.
But Bellamania aside, we shouldn't lose sight of the progress our club has made under our new regime. We have signed Oli, Koumas, Drinkwater & Heaton, and if we're honest with ourselves, who actually thought we'd be signing players instead of having a firesale of our talented ones?
Lets get behind the team we have, and show the boys that wear OUR colours that their signing for Cardiff has not been forgotten in the euphoria of a fantasy signing of a player that will in all liklihood, not happen.
