CAR PARKING AT ASDA

Postby BLUE54 » Mon Dec 31, 2018 4:58 pm

I've just heard a rumour that the "NO PARKING" signs are back up at ADSA/COSTCO. Can anyone confirm or deny? Could make sense if a new "parking management" "...." (please feel free to insert your own words) company takes over on January 1st>

Ive had several fines for parking in the Asda car park, and ive not paid any of them. The number plate recognition cameras mean nothing, ignore the fines and they eventually give up.

Be careful, the days of ignoring parking charge notices are long gone and these wankers will do court, it's all changed since the Beavis v Parking eye case and they've got the law on their side, beware.

I've taken the oppo to buy a 6 match bus package for me and the lad for 78 quid from Zeelo. Pick up is just up the road from home and drop off is the stadium roundabout apparently. Works out at 13 quid a match - roughly the same as stadium parking plus a drop of fuel but without the traffic or in and out fuss or parking Nazi worries.

Any fines would be computer generated, takes around 10 days to receive, I know from experience.

Tool look yesterday they have as far could see 2 cameras one at entrance by subway and one by m&S they are not number plate ones as the signs say they will request info from DVLA, magic eye use number plate recognition cameras and clearly state that on signs.. so not sure how they will monitor ammount of vehicles entering and leaving without nprc., they also are basically stopping all visitors to car park on match days as time allowed is minimal with only 3hrs other times, company is a registered credit one so can expect debt agency involved if don't pay up but only way to test it is to ignore letters see what happens. :old:

Right there always seem to be an ongoing debate about this but do you actually have to pay it?

Has anyone recently received a parking charge notice in the past couple of games? Because I know someone who just recieved one from Premier Park and he is a little unsure about it?

Should he leave it or pay it?
I will.
And before anyone els gets in there no im not an ideot abroad

Ignore it...end of! :thumbright:

Any correspondence is an admission the vehicle was there, so simply don't respond

No matter what anyone else tells you to the contrary, these are not 'fines', they are dressed up 'invoices' to claim back private parking charges

The reality is that private companies can only claim back the monies they lost out on by a vehicle overstaying its allotted time. therefor, if parking (albeit for shopping not football purposes) is 'free' for 2 or 3 hours, then they can only 'invoice' for the additional monies owed by the overstay, i.e. nothing

They COULD, if they so choose, take the matter to Court but the cost involved, the hassle and the mere possibility of it going against them means they almost wholly rely on 'mugs' paying out of fear on demand

Similar issue with the clampers a few short years ago; the only difference being they literally had their 'customers' by the wheels, if you get my drift! ;)

Don't ignore at all costs, it's completely changed now since the Beavis v Parking Eye case where a supreme court were in favour of Parking Eye. The floodgates have now opened and they will do court as I found out and got hit for £200. Ignore a court hearing and they'll get a CCJ on you which will effect your credit for 6 years. They're absolute wankers and are coining it in, look up the case of the nurses at The Heath who got hit for £150,000. I f*cking despise the wankers.

Feck me - look at their accounts - they are absolutely raking it in - they've put an extra £1m in the bank in the last 12 months

They doubled their profits in 12 months - thay are making so much money it looks like they can't spend it quick enough!

They're total wankers and they've got the law on their side. Personally I would pay the £50 and get them off your back. I ignored them over a £1 flipped ticket on principal, they took me to court where I had to pay £200. Throw in loss of wage, putting the case together and fuel costs, my total loss was in the region of £400, all over a £1 ticket which I had proof that I had paid.

It was last season, the Reading game. Did you ignore the parking fine ? Or did you acknowledge it ? The moment you get into any kind of correspondence with them, the fine becomes live.

I just ignored their threatening letters but did phone them up to stop sending me all this bullshit, then I had a letter from Northampton county court saying I owed £247, all over a £1 flipped ticket. Still thought it was bullshit until I had a court appearance date.

Hi Bob did you actually go to court to try and defend this? I am very interested as I advise on this subject on a daily basis. You are correct that the law has changed and car parking companies are now proceeding to court and you could end up with a ccj or even a charge on your property if you own one. If you ignore paperwork from the court then a default ccj will be entered and could end up with bailiffs knocking your door or money taken out of your wages.

If they'd thought about it properly..why not embrace the football fans and not fk us off! who after all do spend money in some of the outlets there on match days (not any more from me). What if instead they put up ticket machines and charged £2 a space and provided some stewards to sort out the scrum to get out of there after the final whistle?

Yes Nathan, I honestly thought it would have been thrown out of court, the ticket was wafer thin with no adhesive which I produced in court it had my reg on the ticket and I still had 2 hours left when I returned to the car. the judge totally sided with the parking company and said it justified the amount they were claiming as I had broken a contractual agreement as the ticket had flipped on the dashboard and hit me for £200. Like you said it's all changed now and they've now got the law on their side and the clout to do court. It's a multi million pound industry with a lot of grubby fingers in the pie but the days of ignoring them and taking a chance of them going away is gone, there are loads of cases where people have ignored all papers then find they can't get credit due to a CCJ. They're horrible bastards and use the Beavis v Parking Eye case in their favour, when Barry Beavis lost that case it all changed and they're now operating everywhere knowing they can get easy money.

Can you please explain how this was. There were no signs or cameras at the ASDA/COSTCO car park at the Reading game. In fact there have not been any there for the last several years. I have been parking there regularly, checking there were no signs before every game since they removed the signs several years ago. I parked there up until the Man U game this season, but over Xmas found out they have re-erected signs etc. Hence my OP on here. I am well aware that the law changed after the Beavis court ruling, and am very wary as to where I now park. I have no problem with paying for car parking anywhere, but I am damned if I am going to line these firms pockets just for not checking whether it's signed & monitored. If you want to take a chance and ignore these signs do so at your own risk. Because it is a big risk now if you do. As for the cameras, they are not ANPR but take photographs. They then apply to DVLA for the owners details, which the DVLA are more than happy to give them for a small fee. The law used to be that they would have to prove who was ACTUALLY DRIVING the car. That is no longer true. The law now is that they are allowed to pursue the registered owner instead. These firms I believe, are now able to do all the court legal stuff before hand online so their costs are now marginal and so easy for them to do.
If you have been in this situation as you say many times, you have been incredibly fortunate. I guess this would be before the law change, (which I know from personal experience has happened to people I know). I would not advise anyone to do the same these days. :bluebird:
