GLORY HUNTERS ??? - your view

Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:41 pm

OK we have heard the rants about adults and children being at the club today wearing different kits and not Cardiff City ones

OK as a parent of a footie mad boy - who is blue thru n thru and wears his city kits to sleep in his city bed in his city bedroom

YET he has a spanish kit, portugese kit and liverpool kit - just when the others are in the wash and i refuse to do a mini load for them to be clean    - his friends have the kits and he likes the players in the teams SO why should i not let him have a replica kit ?????????? - maybe the difference is he wears the kits of teams that he can tell you player for player and the numbers they wear ( i know i couldn't)

AND SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO this is interesting for me to see you view

WHAT are you views then on our Malaysian investors

These investors want us to be recognised by their fellow country men and to get support as far and wide as possible

HOW would you feel going on a holiday in Malaysia and seeing kids in the streets kicking a football in a Cardiff City kit

I for one thing would feel proud and so impressed that we made it to the big thing of kids everywhere wanting a kit of our team - I would be amazed to see them out side of wales - i would be well happy

I would not call these kids glory hunters - just lucky to have found us

Whoever they are, whoever they support, we need to turn their heads towards the CCS. It's the only way forward.
You're right Jez, they are the "Chosen" lucky ones!! :D :D :D

its like the people who went down the city when only 1500 turned up feel bitter towards the people who only started going when 10000 turn up,theese people now have the same feelings for the people that make the numbers to 20000,but to be a big club you need the support and the money from theese people to make the numbers add up,the more that join our club i hope the bigger it will become. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

We need to convert these plastics to City fans. Not abuse them. I'll have no problem in admitting to supporting Man Utd before my mam took me to see City. As a kid, I thought Cantona and Schmeichel were magical gods. And I will always count Man Utd as "my prem team" until we get there. But the euphoria I felt at the play off semi win against Leicester and the way I have felt over the last 72 hours with this Bellamy saga has taught me that I will NEVER love another club as much as I do Cardiff. OK, I have a Man Utd and Rangers tops, I've been to Old Trafford, seen Man U play and can tell you their history. But nothing compares to Cardiff for me. Nothing.

And its those type of people we need to be converting to City fans. Fans that like football but havn't woken up to their local side yet. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Glory supporters make me sick.

That was the main thing that pissed me off when we lost to Blackpool.

I bet less than 30% of them could name every player in the starting line-up.

Bottom line is that without these "glory hunters" we cannot sell out our 25,000 seater stadium. We need then to start coming down on a regular basis and then they, surely, would no longer be classed as glory hunters just "new fans" :ayatollah:

This club really has a chance to convert those kids in Man Utd shirts now, surely we should be welcoming them not shunning them.

I absolutely hate the term 'Glory Hunter'

If any fan turns up at CCS (or Wembley for that matter) to support CCFC then I consider them fellow Bluebirds and nothing else.

My first game was in 88 when we beat Crewe 2-0 to finish second behind Wolves and up until then I was Liverpool mad and the only reason that I wanted to go down to Ninian Park was because I used to watch Grandstand on a Saturday and seeing City win a lot made me want to come down. So after pestering my old man for weeks he took me to my first game, I was a glory hunter then because I wouldn't have wanted to come down if City were losing 3 or 4 nil every week.

Since then I have been to around 100 grounds and 5-600 games watching City at home, away and abroad so it just shows that everybody has got to start somewhere. I can guarantee that we will have fans who come down for the first time because Bellamy is here but they catch the bug like I did and end up watching City for years and years, and that is what football clubs need!!

Quality post. :ayatollah:

I hate the term as well. My first game was 40 years ago, and was a regular right though the 80's until I got married and for various reasons didn't get to go much during the 90's. I don't believe that makes me any more or any less of a Bluebird than anyone else. Last time I looked there was no entrance exam or "time served" to become a Bluebird.

I still smile at the memory of sitting in the Bob bank, watching us play Man City of all people in the FA cup, we were through on goal but before ball hit net I said to my mate "Nah, he's offside". (The lino's flag was a bit of a giveaway)
The guy in front was enraged, turned, asked me what I knew about it, and said "You sound English anyway". Sorry I don't talk like Frank Hennesy but I'm sure as hell not English!

Attitudes like this, serve only to dissuade the casual fan, potential fans and their famillies, from coming to games. I looked around the stadium yesterday, imagining what it would be like with another tier in order to accomodate 50,000 in a champions league game! For that to happen, we need current fans, old fans, new fans. Let's finally wake this so called sleeping giant up :ayatollah:

I hate the term Glory Hunters when referred to as newer fans of football clubs as its common sense that the higher the division you play in then the larger your support will be with the only exceptions being in my life time when Man U dropped down in 1974 but kept the crowds as did Man C and Leeds when dropping to the old 3rd division . Luton in the conference have a small support BUT if they eventually reached the Prem League and had a new stadium then they too would have large crowds watching them as it makes sense .

Ive always supported Cardiff in every division and I have witnessed all the empty spaces at Ninian Park plus seen it packed to the rafters ............... thats football life . CCFC in League 2 I reckon would average between 2,500 to 15,000 per home game depending on how good the team was and where in the League we are and Im sure the same goes for ALL teams in League 2 at the mo and indeed League 1 . Fans come and fans go is the reality here and ofcourse fans will always want to spend their money on higher division football .................... unlike a few thousand like myself who would watch CCFC in the Conference it that were to happen ! Ive seen way way more relegations than promotions at Cardiff and it has NEVER ever put me off from renewing my season ticket !

So at the moment I am enjoying the best spell Ive ever seen CCFC play and some new supporters know no different BUT in no way will I ever call anybody plastic who decides to watch Cardiff now .................. lucky them I say :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

i dont mind "Glory Hunters" i was one also, my first city game was the playoff final in the millenium. Ever since i have owned a season ticket every year since and go to atleast 80% of our away games a season. I just hope who ever comes in from now dont get priority over limited tickets for future big games. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I dont care if supporters wear other shirts from other clubs.
This attitude would change if we got to the premiership.
I dont think our supporters care, as long as money filled the coffers!!!!! :ayatollah:
Bring em on whoever they support, just hope they spend their money towards our club. :ayatollah:

Well said mate. My thoughts exactly, you just put them across better than I could.
