Emiliano Sala had not put pen to paper on a new, revised deal.

The technical hitch surrounded the signing on fee.

Cardiff will argue Sala would have had to sign a revised deal in order to play in the Premier League. They are understood to also be keen on making the case that certain terms of their transfer agreement with Nantes had also not been fulfilled.

Body recovered from plane wreckage confirmed as Emiliano Sala


Investigators have confirmed that the body of Emiliano Sala has been recovered from the wreckage of his plane that went missing last month.

A body was pulled from the aircraft, which was found on the bottom of the ocean north of Guernsey, earlier this week.

The plane, which was carrying Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, disappeared off the radar around 8:30pm on January 21, as the Cardiff City striker was travelling from Nantes to the Welsh capital.

The investigation to find the plane was initially called off after three days, but Sala's family raised the funds to keep the search alive, with thanks to donations from the international football community.

Sala’s sister paid an emotional tribute to her tragic brother in the early hours of Friday morning.


Heartbroken Romina uploaded a photo of the star to Instagram after the news was confirmed.

“Your soul in my soul it will shine forever thus illuminating the time of my existence. I love you, tito,” she wrote.

Cardiff said in a statement: "We offer our most heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of Emiliano.

"He and David will forever remain in our thoughts."

Other tributes were paid by Arsenal player Mesut Ozil, Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy and Paris Saint-Germain footballer Kylian Mbappe.

A private search team announced that they had found the wreckage of the plane at the bottom of the English channel on February 4.


One body was inside the aircraft, which has now been successfully recovered and confirmed as being that of Sala.

Dorset Police confirmed: "The body brought to Portland Port today has been formally identified by HM Coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala.

"The families of Mr Sala and pilot David Ibbotson have been updated. Our thoughts remain with them all."

Guernsey Police revealed that the Piper Malibu - a single-engine plane carrying a pilot and the Bluebirds' record signing - has been missing since 8.30pm on Monday night.

ITV News has spoken to French journalist Arnaud Wajdzik in Nantes. He has confirmed that the French police and Nantes Football Club have said that Sala was on the plane.

Cardiff City have told Sky News they are seeking clarification over reports that footballer Emiliano Sala was on a light aircraft that disappeared from radar in the English Channel last night.



Air Traffic Control have confirmed the aircraft was travelling from Nantes in western France to Cardiff when it went missing.


A Piper Malibu plane similar to that which is missing.

A journalist from Ouest France tweeted to say Sala had been on the plane - but there has been no confirmation.

Concerns were raised when the 28-year-old Cardiff forward failed to respond to messages on social media.

This could be a worry.

Hopefully we already have Sala back in Cardiff.

Whoever the victims are, hopefully they are found very soon.

Sala was in nantes today saying goodbyes to teammates... I believe he was due to fly back then to join up training this week with us....pray whoever is on the plane then can be found and rescued. Light aircrafts could do a. Successful sea landing...

I'm not sure we'd arrange a light aircraft for him. I'm not an aeronautical expert, but the type of aircraft he'd been using with us recently would have been termed "private jet", wouldn't they? Light aircraft are usually propeller-driven planes.

This does sound very worrying . It seems likely that whoever was on the plane was in some way concerned with one or other of the clubs , since I can't imagine that there's much regular traffic between the two places .
Let's pray that whether or not this is the case, whoever is on board is safe.

the plane was a piper malibu, thats a single engine plane with a propeller on the front, wouldnt of thought sala would be travelling on a plane like that, hope whoever is on board is found safe and unharmed but doesnt look good.

So because its from there and going to Cardiff thats the only link to sala. Does not mean its him but lets start online rumours anyway where 2+2=15 chestnut.

I just read on the guardian website that the aircraft was carrying 2 people including pilot. Can't imagine sala would be travelling alone?

I was told he was flying back on Tuesday morning when I met him this weekend

So hopefully it’s not him but likely it could be someone associated with one of the clubs?

I have heard he was on the plane I hope to god this isn’t true and it could be rumours but it’s come from a very reliable source and I would happily be wrong but it doesn’t look good at all.
