Makes me feel sick the more things come out

Reports now that a body has been seen in the wreckage.

Hope that both bodies are there for the sake of the families.

Why will the Police be involved other than acting on behalf of the Coroner, as it’s never been mentioned that there was anything illegal about the flight? It may have been badly organised but that doesn’t make it a criminal matter.

Modernly, every major occurrence that involves an unexplained fatality is treated as a homicide until the evidence downgrades it to something else, e.g. manslaughter, misadventure, accidental, etc.

That way, evidence is sought/preserved to ensure investigative outcomes are both full and accurate

No one has suggested it is a criminal matter to date but it is only right that they carry out a full investigation

The AAIB have released a full statement:

Having identified a priority search area last week, the AAIB agreed a search strategy with Blue Water Recoveries Ltd to maximise the chance of locating the aircraft wreckage.

The AAIB commissioned specialist vessel Geo Ocean III and Blue Water Recoveries Ltd commissioned FPV Morven and the search area was divided between the vessels. Both vessels began their search on the morning of Sunday 3 February.

Early in the search, the Morven identified an object of interest on the seabed using its side-scan sonar equipment. It cleared the immediate area for the Geo Ocean III to use its underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to survey the area of the seabed in which the object was located. Based on analysis of ROV video footage, the AAIB investigators on board the vessel concluded that the object is wreckage from the missing Piper Malibu aircraft, registration N264DB.

The ROV carried out a further search of the area overnight, but did not identify any additional pieces of wreckage.
Tragically, in video footage from the ROV, one occupant is visible amidst the wreckage. The AAIB is now considering the next steps, in consultation with the families of the pilot and passenger, and the police.

The image shows the rear left side of the fuselage including part of the aircraft registration.

We intend to publish an interim report within one month of the accident occurring.

I dont think its strange at all that the bodies are in there ,they werent high and once trouble started dont think there was anyway they had chance to get out of that small plane,also with the the way they say substantial evidence suggests its all there it probably went straight down.

I guess for the families as much as its final and news they didnt want at least they get closure and can at least bury them.

Without doubt a very tragic end for both of them,so sad.

If you're looking at the same picture as me you can't see any doors let alone one open - when you say there is hope i'm not actually sure if you are being serious.

I don't think we can tell anything from that sadly. It may have broken off with impact. If anyone had escaped they can't have survived these conditions for this long

If you're looking at the same picture as me you can't see any doors let alone one open - when you say there is hope i'm not actually sure if you are being serious.

Actually if you look at the BBC the picture extends a little to the left. It looks like the door is open. No hope of course but more speculation that possibly someone got out. Time will tell and hopefully closure for everyone.

Yes, from other photos released, it does indeed look like the door has been opened or somehow ripped open by impact maybe. Can imagine it wouldn't have been an easy task locating the door handle in the dark and perhaps having water pressure against it too.

Come on mate, be realistic, 63 meters under water, visibly would be zero, the water would have been ice cold, so even if one of them was to have made it out then they would have perished within a minute or so.

Whatever happened will finally come out and lets hope both their families can lay their loved ones to rest, a bit of comfort in such a tragic event. RIP to both

I agree but if there is only one body then someone must've opened the door and got out. Its 99.99% against but then they have to keep looking.

Very upsetting news, and can they confirm who they found? as yet. Looks like the others will be be found around the plane somewhere. It looks like the plane hit the sea slowly or all this plane bits, would have been all cut up with the impact. If the door is open it means nothing, could have happen with the impact.

Mr Mearns said they probably would not be able to recover it in that period of time but that is "probably what they are now evaluating".

"If they can dive today [Monday], and the conditions aren't great, then hopefully they can get some more information about how they would attempt that recovery.

At that time the Guernsey coastguard still had the possibility that both David and Emiliano Sala were still alive and it was a rescue mission. Are you really stating that whilst there was a possibility of both still being alive the search teams should have wasted time looking for dead bodies at the bottom of the sea?
