English rugby fan attacked in 'racially aggravated assault'


An English rugby fan was viciously attacked by a gang of men just hours after a big international clash between the two countries, police have said.

Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for information regarding what they describe as a “racially aggravated assault” in Llanelli , around three hours after Wales had defeated England on February 23.

it is understood the 29-year-old victim had been watching the rugby match in the town centre and then walked through Llanelli on his way home.

According to police he walked past Llanelli Magistrates’ Court and then down Bridge Street and at around 8.15pm, as he was walking near the Credit Union shop, he was allegedly attacked by a group comprising of three or four men.

It’s unknown what exactly was said during the assault but he was reportedly punched several times in the head, and suffered injuries to his eye and forehead.

An ambulance was called to the scene but the victim was conveyed to hospital by police who had attended the scene.

Police are now investigating the assault and are asking anyone with information to contact PC211 Owens at Llanelli Police Station by calling 101.

You only had to see the huge crowd under the Ninian Stand watching the Rugby at half time on Saturday to realise that most of us like both Sports.

Where does it say the attackers were Welsh rugby fans?

Personally I love rugby as well as football.
There are punch ups every weekend in town centres for numerous reason,unfortunately it's the culture we live in.

I enjoy both but football is the firm favourite. Unfortunately idiots go to both don’t quiet see what the point of the thread is for and why it’s directed at rugby fans.

I think the point is , for years the media were quite happy to portray Rugby as a friendly day out with a bit of high jinx and football fans as violence junkies...but yes as we know and is now reported that was just propaganda and idiots go to both..

not sure the article has anything to do with rugby though other than the fella supported England and watched the game. are we now calling all trouble between an Englishman and a Welshman racially aggravated ?
