April 16 – Cardiff City have submitted evidence to FIFA in their dispute with Nantes over the £15 million transfer fee for the late Emiliano Sala.

Cardiff have so far refused to make an interim payment towards the fee for the Argentine striker who died in January when the light aircraft carrying him to Cardiff two days after he signed crashed into the sea.

The circumstances of his transfer have been plunged into controversy with Cardiff, for whom Sala never played because of his untimely death, not yet complying with Nantes’ request for payment of the first instalment.

The Premier League club claim the deal was not legally binding. Nantes referred the dispute to FIFA, who granted an extension for the clubs to submit their evidence.

Recently, Cardiff offered Nantes direct talks in an effort to settle the dispute, after FIFA president Gianni Infantino said he hoped the clubs could reach an agreement. But now the matter seems likely to be adjudicated by FIFA.

Cardiff claim Nantes’ conditions for completion of the deal were not fulfilled and Sala was not registered as a Premier League player. Nantes counter-claim the required paperwork was completed and they were fully compliant with FIFA regulations and have copies of Sala registered as a Cardiff City players.

Cardiff Submits Sala Evidence to FIFA
April 16, 2019

TRANSFER SAGA

Cardiff City has submitted its evidence to FIFA in the dispute with Nantes over the £15m transfer fee for Emiliano Sala.

Cardiff has so far refused to make an interim payment towards the fee for the Argentine striker who died in a plane crash in January.

The Premier League club claimed the deal was not legally binding.

Nantes referred the dispute to FIFA, who granted an extension to Monday for the clubs to submit their evidence.

Now Cardiff has confirmed that it met the deadline.

A club statement said: “Cardiff City FC has today submitted its answer in response to the claim filed by FC Nantes on 26 February 2019.”

Recently, Cardiff offered Nantes direct talks in an effort to settle the dispute, after FIFA President Gianni Infantino said he hoped the clubs could reach an agreement.

But now the matter seems likely to be adjudicated by FIFA.

Cardiff will say Nantes’ conditions for completion of the deal were not fulfilled and Sala was not registered as a Premier League player.

Nantes claim the required paperwork was completed and they were fully compliant with FIFA regulations.

Earlier a FIFA spokesperson told BBC Sport Wales: “Proceedings are currently ongoing and therefore please understand we cannot comment further at this stage. Any potential update will be communicated in due course.”

Cardiff City have submitted their evidence to FIFA over the dispute with Nantes around the £15million transfer fee for Emiliano Sala.

French club Nantes have taken the matter to FIFA after the Bluebirds withheld the first of three annual £5m instalments of the payment.

Cardiff were then granted an extension from FIFA on a deadline to present their case, which saw Cardiff request direct talks with Nantes , which came after FIFA president Gianni Infantino spoke about his wish for the two clubs to reach an agreement. Those talks have not happened, so now the matter looks likely to be settled by the governing body.

A club statement reads: "Cardiff City FC has today submitted its answer to FIFA in response to the claim filed by FC Nantes on 26 February, 2019."

It is not yet known how the case will be dealt with by FIFA.

FIFA do things by committee and it is likely to be looked at by the Players’ Status Committee, which "monitors compliance with the regulations on the status and transfer of players".
