The long throw

Postby davids » Sun May 05, 2019 4:44 pm

Now that Gunnar has gone can we PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop with the constant long throws next season?

Can anyone remind me whether any of the 1,750,423 long throws we've taken this season have led directly to a goal?

For us I mean.

So easy to defend against especially when they are only ever aimed at one player.

Worryingly, it seemed as if the main reason Healy was brought on against Fulham last week was so that he could throw it in even longer than Gunnar.

Maybe Greg Halford should be waiting for a phone call!

Mix it up ffs! The odd long throw by all means (and aimed at somebody other than Morrison!)especially in the Championship but the constant long throws are becoming counter productive.

It's not only fact there long its fact that every last one of them was aimed at Morrison same with corners same with free kicks! Think that sums up our strategy all season... :o

I'm afraid if warnock is still here it will happen.

Probably train someone over the summer to do long throws so can still use Morrison as target! :laughing6:

Not a fan of the long throw at all. Never get anything from them. And we need to get a free kick specialist haven’t had one since Whitt’s. When is the last time we have scored direct from a free kick ?

Doesn’t Rhys Healy also have long throw ins too?
Gunnar might be gone but looks like Morrison, Paterson and Healy also have big throw ins so don’t think we’ve seen the last of them yet

I have been watching this all season. The opposition anticipate the ball going out and are moving into position before the ball has gone out. And as linesmen seem to be oblivious to foul throws these days, they can be in our penalty area before you know it. Whereas we wait for Gunners to amble up to take the throw by which time the opposition are organised. Not saying we should never use it but we should use it sparingly.
