" Is it really the best top tier league in the world? "

Wed May 08, 2019 6:05 pm

Tonight could see a situation where we have two Premier League clubs in the Champions League Final.

Two of the last four this year were English and, also this year, four of the last eight.

You would also say its extremely likely that the Europa League Final will be contested by two Premier League clubs.

Likely that both Manchester City and Liverpool will both finish with over 97 points this season - enough to win the league in almost any division.

So is the Premier League really the best top tier league in the world?

Whichever you think is the best, state your reasoning.

Certainly a good debate.

The Premier League gets my vote, but not just because of the top teams. If you compare it to La Liga, I believe if the team in each position played their opposite number then the Premier League would easily come on top on aggregate.

Certainly the most entertaining.

Definitely top league as normally got 4 or more teams fighting at top, this season is an anomaly! But it must have worst officials :o

Strongest in depth for sure. We would have finished in top six in France and probably in a respectable position in Spain and Italy.

Only one British winner in the Champions league in the last ten years suggests otherwise. La Liga is much better for skills, EPL more physical. Depends how you like ya footie..

I think the money in the premier league has pushed it on to a new level.
Would be interesting to see how premier league clubs compare with clubs across Europe in spending on transfers, wages, bounces etc

Its about the league not the clubs ? Real Barca are amongst best teams in the world so you'd expect them to be around cup final times! but go past those two and la lega is average to say least same for all other leagues in Europe, generally premier league have more teams fighting at top this season an anomaly though... history is littered with teams winning European / champions league several year's in row doesnt mean their league was strongest or best.

True Al, but there’s no competition in the PL....there’s three leagues in one, and the top two are under investigation for FFP. You know the winner before a ball is kicked.

Yes guess your right and looks like losing one from top in Chelsea as can't see them challenging until after their ban.. although think spurs may do business in transfer window now moved, unless of course they think they will be top 4 without spending again? Not sure on arsenal see who they buy..... but certainly premier league is going into 3 mini leagues with occasional team breaking mold like wolves

Well this season the 4 teams in the 2 Euro' Finals are all from the Premier League ( and Man City are not 1 of them ) ;)

The Premier League is.

We’d survive in La Liga no problem in my opinion.

There’s decent teams in the premier league from top to bottom.

the UEFA coefficient which ranks leagues has Spain clearly top..it not based purely on the top 2 clubs but all competing clubs from a particular league..for Spain to be as far ahead as they are it does mean all 7 Spanish clubs are performing better than the 7 EPL clubs..
this season and last the EPL has closed the gap but at this point its Spain top and EPL second.
