The Manchester United manager has grown frustrated with his big-name stars and has turned to youth ahead of the final match of the season

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned to youth ahead of Manchester United's final game of the season.

United missed out on a Champions League spot with last Sunday's abject 1-1 draw at Huddersfield , with the Reds consigned to the Europa League next season.

Solskjar has been frustrated by the performances and attitude of many of his established stars and responded by promoting six youth players to first-team training this week.

Angel Gomes, Dylan Levitt, Arnau Puigmal, Mason Greenwood, James Garner and Tahith Chong all trained with the first-team ahead of Sunday's final game of the season against Cardiff at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer, whose first game in charge of United was a 5-1 win over his former club Cardiff, is likely to use Sunday's season finale to give the youngsters a chance to show what they can do ahead of next season.

Chong came off the bench for Alexis Sanchez at Huddersfield last weekend, while Gomes, Garner and Greenwood have all been involved with the first-team at various stages this season.

Spanish midfielder Puigmal, 18, and Wales Under-19 international Levitt have impressed in the United youth ranks this season and earned their promotion to the first-tea squad at the club's AON Training Complex in Carrington.

Solskjaer has been unimpressed with the contributions of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in recent weeks, while defenders Luke Shaw, Phil Jones and Ashley Young have also angered the former United striker.

United can finish fifth in the Premier League with a victory and if Arsenal drop points against Burnley .

Finishing fifth would remove the prospect of having to pre-qualify for the group stage of the Europa League in late July.
