Cardiff have given Newport access to the Cardiff City Stadium so that the Newport squad can train there in the build up to their play off final

Newport are currently undergoing pre scheduled building work to their facilities so they are unable to train there

Nice to see the club helping. I bet the management laugh at the knuckle-draggers who no doubt will be fuming at the news.

A friendly local League 1 club (at operational level) is exactly what City should seek. Would be able to give game time to young exciting prospects and keep an eye on them easily.

Their training facilities are not the best, my son trained their for about six months, not the best. I imagine they will be loving the facilities at Cardiff City. Even if their fans laughed their heads off when we were relegated last week :bluebird:

To be fair its more the other way around. Most of us have a soft spot for the County and the vast majority on the bus back from Manchester were rooting for them.

I don't understand why, every city fan i've met has no problem with Newport me included, this "rivalry" seems to be entirely one sided

Have you ever been to a Newport/Cardiff game? I only ask as maybe that's why you don't understand it.

The last two iv been to wernt great, the friendly at Spyty Park wasn't for the feint hearted and was pretty hostile for us Cardiff fans that were there Annis will back me up on that, then when we played them in the FAW Cup at Ninian Park half their following wanted to damage anything in sight.

Have you ever wondered why we don't play them in a pre season friendly?

I don't wish them any harm but I certainly won't 'support them' but that's just my opinion based on my OWN personal experiences of them.

That’s fair enough then yes, and to answer your question no I have never been to a cardiff + Newport game so probably why I don’t understand the rivalry.

I’ve grown up through the period of us loaning players to Newport such as healey and mark harris. Always making the clubs seem quite close

Traditionally when city were away a fair would go and watch county and a lot of people from Newport support Cardiff.it only turned nasty when they plunged out of the league.the following season they were expelled from the conference.since then they've always had a chip on their shoulders.on the field there's little rivalry as we've haven't played them much over the years.

seen many a County game in the 70s when I wasn't away with City and stopped because of the constant anti Cardiff vibe about the place and then in the 80s playing them was hostile as f@@@. they proper do not like us mate and have not for a lot more than a few years..

Good for us , and hopefully it will county as well.

like said - we need to use Newport as a testing ground for potential youngsters coming through who have slipped through our net (which is easily done).

I may even take a day trip to Wembely to see the game - presuming there will be lots of spare tickets

The last away game at Somerton was mental. Think it was during our 87/88 promotion season. Fighting all the way from the station, through the town and ambushes right down Cromwell Road.
Luckily we had some right nutters so we didn't have too much hassle.
During the match there was fighting in the home end, one of ours took bolt cutters and cut a hole in the away fencing.
It was mayhem.
Up to that point i used to watch City and County but that was it for me. You can't support 2 sides. :bluescarf:
Newport DETEST us and it will always be that way.

I totally agree, some of them hate us beyond and have done since the 1970's.

A lot of their old heads have moved on and I now get on well with them, there are now though a lot of younger ones who now dislike us.

For literally no reason, it might be because they dont have any rivals so they're trying to fabricate one with us but it's entirely one sided, just my guess
