' Sky Sports: Lowe from Portsmouth '

Wed May 22, 2019 2:21 pm

Leeds, Cardiff and Wigan will battle it out to land Portsmouth’s top scorer Jamal Lowe, Sky Sports News understands.

22/05/19

The 22-year old scored 17 goals for Pompey last season and has just 12 months left on his contract.
Manager Kenny Jackett is keen to keep hold of his star striker - but may be tempted to allow a transfer, expected to be in the region of £2m.

I’d be happy with this one.
Youngish and knows where the net is.

£2m not a big fee.

We should be able to offer him decent wages- better than Leeds and Wigan

Not sure we need a winger but I expect Warnock to get one. He likes to have a few Wingers and to freshen it up.

Quality player if you get him, be gutted to see him leave pompey. Will easily step up into the championship.
Rather see you lot sign him than Leeds.

I don't know anything about the guy but is he better than Bogle?

If not then bring Bogle back and use money elsewhere

Since Warnock has been here. Paper talk has pretty much been completely wrong.

Wow if the 'you Tube' videos anything to go by I'd love to see this lad at Cardiff. So much flair albeit in a lower league but for £2 million it's well worth a gamble.

He looks great but the problem is, he’s a winger and we’ve got Murphy, Harris, Hoilett and Mendez-Laing in those positions whereas other positions are crying out for depth. So this rumour a) is probably false; b) also suggests that we are selling a winger or c) suggests that our other positions will remain vulnerable next season (in terms of depth)

Why can’t we have five wingers?

Looking at him on u tube I would sign him ASAP. Harris can go and for what Murphy did last season I would sell him and use the money on midfielders.

We can, but would it be logical to sign another player in a position where you’ve got plenty of able players or would it be more logical to prioritise positions where we don’t have many players?

2 pros and 2 cons to Cardiff securing deal for rapid winger

By Ben Lang

Thursday 23rd May 2019

Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe is being linked with a move to Cardiff City following Pompey’s failure to win promotion, according to Sky Sports.

The pacy winger is also reportedly wanted by Leeds United and Wigan, with Lowe having just 12 months remaining on his Fratton Park contract.

The 24-year-old has been a revelation at Portsmouth since rising through the footballing pyramid from non-league Hampton & Richmond Borough.

He registered 17 goals in 55 appearances for the club this season, and was a key member of Kenny Jackett’s side promotion push. The report states that there have been no bids for Lowe as yet, but Jackett is aware of the growing interest in his player.

So, would Lowe be a good signing for Cardiff?

Here are two pros and two cons…

Pro: His transfer value

According to the report, Lowe would be available at a cut-price due to his contract expiring next summer. A £2million fee would be great business from Cardiff at this level.

Lowe will also have guaranteed sell-on value as he continues his remarkable rise through the divisions, so the Bluebirds would be likely to make a profit on him in the future.

I think the cheap fee is a major reason why Cardiff are interested in this deal.

Pro: His pace

Jamal Lowe

Warnock has recently confirmed he will be staying at Cardiff next season, which means there is even more reason for Cardiff to force this deal through.

Lowe has pace to burn, and this would fit in well at Cardiff given that Warnock prefers quick wingers who can contribute to Cardiff’s direct style of play.

He would also be a solid replacement in the Cardiff squad for Kadeem Harris, who is out of contract this summer.

Con: Other clubs are interested

J Loweeeeeeeeeee

This should not put Cardiff off the deal, but they should remember to not put all their eggs in one basket.

Cardiff should be an attractive proposition for Lowe, but he may take time to assess his options given that a host of other clubs are also interested in his services.

This means that Cardiff could end up disappointed if Lowe eventually opts to sign for another club. Cardiff should pursue the signing, while also keeping their options open.

Con: It could leave a selection headache

Lowe Pompeyyyy

Lowe may need to force his way into Warnock’s side, as Cardiff already have an abundance of attacking players they will be able to call upon in the Championship.

These include the likes of Bobby Reid, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Junior Hoilett and Josh Murphy. Most of these are established players at the club and will not roll over lightly for Lowe to take a place in the side.

This could leave Warnock with a selection dilemma next season. Although this is not always a bad thing, it does mean that at least one of these talented players is likely to be left disappointed.

Offer Bogle swap or swap plus money to Pompey?

How about getting TWO strikers first.

Why if Warnock knows he wants a winger then get the best he can as soon as he can, same with a striker whenever they are available. Be Stupid to miss out on Lowe if he is preferred winger for now reason.

Also I believe City haven't decided yet on Harris, I guess he would be his replacement.

They’ve got it wrong about one year left on his contract. Pompey have an option of a one year extension meaning he’d be under contract for two years.
Also the expected fee would be nearer £4m

It doesn’t work like that though!
Buy your strikers first (even though Warnock might not want one never mind two), then buy your wingers, then buy your centre midfielders .......

I know exactly how it works, priority has to be bringing strikers in, by not doing it last summer cost us our premier League place.

Then you’ll understand that players will be brought in when they are available and not looking at strikers first, priority or not.

if we had strikers that were getting chances but couldn't hit a barn door youd be correct....not the case..
its about what the manager wants and how the manager intends to play..
we have been promoted twice now without a goalscorer even equalling mitrovics 11 goals for Fulham this season..

pats got 10 in the promtion season...chops, jay and whits all got more in the year we reached the play off final..for all the good that did us..its about ballance and not being pre occupied with exactly who scores.

He's working fast by the sounds of things through a list of players for every position he needs, it doesn't matter which order he gets them, as long as he fills every gap, and the sooner the better let's not mess about.

If we get them in early they can all bond and do the pre-season training together and we can start like an express train again, and gain an early advantage like last time
