The latest on Cardiff City's pursuit of Rotherham United and Wales man Will Vaulks -

Monday 17th June 2019

Will Vaulks could yet become Cardiff City's first signing of the summer.

The Bluebirds have kept a close eye on the central midfielder, and Neil Warnock is thought to be a real admirer of the 25-year-old.

Vaulks impressed for Warnock's former club Rotherham United last term and has been tipped to leave the New York Stadium following the Millers' relegation from the Championship.

The Mail reported on Monday morning that Cardiff have agreed terms with Vaulks and that he will sign in a deal worth £1.5m within the next 24 hours.

However, sources close to the club have stated that they are not expecting any new signings to be announced imminently.

Harry Arter and Victor Camarasa both left Cardiff City Stadium following season-long loans in South Wales last term.

Aron Gunnarsson - previously the club's longest-serving player - has also parted company with the Bluebirds, with the Iceland international joining Qatari-outfit Al-Arabi.

It has left Warnock somewhat thin on options in the centre of midfield, with Joe Ralls and Loic Damour being his two main options in that role, although Callum Paterson, Leandro Bacuna and Jazz Richards can fill in if required.

Vaulks made his Wales debut against Trinidad & Tobago in March, playing his first competitive game for Ryan Giggs' side in their opening Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia at Cardiff City Stadium.

The midfielder was away on international duty last week for Wales' away double header against Croatia and Hungary.

Vaulks' energetic style is similar to that of Arter and Craig Bryson who both flourished in the middle of the park under Warnock in the Welsh capital.

He featured 43 times in all competitions for Rotherham last term, scoring eight goals, including one against the Bluebirds' South Wales rivals Swansea City in April.

In addition to Vaulks, the Bluebirds are also being tipped to beat Sunderland in the race to sign defender Curtis Nelson from Oxford United.
