I knew Tony Clemo very well and had a lot of time and respect for him.
RIP
Former Cardiff City FC Chairman and Club owner Tony Clemo died this morning. He was 78.
Clemo, a heralded Welsh athlete of considerable acclaim, originally joined the Cardiff board in 1975 and ran the highly-successful Red Dragon Travel business.
He owned several Cardiff nightspots.
Clemo bought a majority shareholding in the Bluebirds and by the summer of 1986 was owner/chairman.
Clemo put much of his own capital into the Bluebirds and recruited manager Frank Burrows from Portsmouth in 1986, Cardiff rising from League Four in 1988.
Clemo stepped aside to allow the late Rick Wright to power Cardiff forward from Spring 1991 - the Bluebirds winning the League Three Championship and Welsh Cup Double in 1993.
During Clemo's tenure at Cardiff - the likes of Dave and Gary Bennett, and Billy Ronson joined the Club.
It was Clemo that so nearly persuaded John Toshack to return to Cardiff from Liverpool in March 1978.
Tony Clemo also acted as a Conduit to bring Sam Hammam to Cardiff City.
