Wigan Athletic targeting ex-Cardiff City and Hull City goalkeeper David MarshallBy Harry MailThe 34-year-old, who is now a free agent, has emerged on the radar of the Championship side, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.
Marshall’s contract at Hull City has expired meaning he can join the Latics for nothing.
Wigan are in the hunt for a new goalkeeper for next season and have been linked with a move for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Christian Walton again. However, it now appears they have switched their attentions elsewhere.
Marshall, who is a Scotland international with 28 caps to his name, is a vastly experienced ‘keeper who has made over 500 appearances in his career.
He started out at Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and rose up through the youth ranks with the Glasgow side.
The 6ft 3inc stopper went onto play 50 times for the Hoops’ first team before moving down the border to join Norwich City in 2007.
Marshall spent two-and-half years at Carrow Road before moving to Cardiff City. He established himself as a key player for the Bluebirds and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League in 2013.
He played 268 times for the Welsh side prior to his switch to Hull City in 2017. Marshall was initially the Tigers’ back-up ‘keeper for his first two seasons at the KCOM Stadium but made the number one spot his own in the last campaign.
Marshall would be a shrewd signing by Wigan on a free transfer.
