The definitive stance on Cardiff City's alleged interest in Brighton striker Glenn Murray

The Bluebirds are keen on getting a new forward on board this summer

Glenn Murray will not be heading to Cardiff City this summer.

Reports in the national media this week suggested that the Bluebirds could well be ready to make a move for the 35-year old, with boss Neil Warnock keen to add more firepower to his squad as they plot an instant return to the Premier League.

However, WalesOnline understands that Cardiff City have in fact not shown any interest in Murray, with sources close to the player categorically ruling out a move to South Wales.

Murray was the Seagulls' top scorer in the Premier League last season, netting 13 goals in 38 games, and Brighton are subsequently not willing to entertain the idea of selling him on.

The player himself appears to have a good working relationship with Warnock, and has spoken highly of him in the past, while the Yorkshireman last season admitted that letting him go during his time as Crystal Palace manager was one of the "biggest mistakes" of his career.

Speaking about his time under Warnock, Murray said: "He told me I wasn't very high up in his plans at Crystal Palace and that gave me the opportunity to go out to Reading on loan and rediscover my goalscoring form after suffering an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).

"I've got nothing but thanks to him for that and being honest, because a lot of managers keep you hanging around and see if you get a chance when maybe they know that you won't.

"Sometimes that (honesty) is difficult to find in football. Managers can sometimes hold players back for their own benefit."

However, despite the admiration for his former boss, Murray is believed to have little interest in a move to South Wales, and is currently not prepared to drop down into the Championship.

Warnock remains keen on getting another striker on board this summer, with French striker Enzo Crevilli the latest to be linked, although they could yet face competition from Middlesbrough.

Odd one from the beginning for a guy who scored 13 Prem goals with a team like Brighton to then drop down a division.

Yes, used sparingly at times, too; suggesting stamina not what it once was?

Apparently he had a horrendous last few months. He is 35, so might be going through a huge decline, so we may have dodged a bullet !
