Our Strength is our biggest weakness

Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:40 am

Or should I say supposed strength!

We are a big strong team and should be dominating from corners long throws and dead balls, but inevitably the opposition head it out and break when we have Ralls, Bennett, Morrison and Flint out of position, I'm sure we are missing Manga who used to be able to help stop the breakaways along with Bamba.

I'm not sure how Warnock solves it but leaving Bacuna and Vaulks back isn't working and both were beaten easily several times today.

That is what Warnock will be working on this week, he may need to keep a few more back, or change things around we need more pace in defence?

What happened to players attacking dead balls we seem to be obsessed with Morrison flicking them in into the box

What happened to both centre half’s standing on the 18 yard box for corners and as it’s been whipped in attacking the ball this is why Morrison doesn’t score as much as he did first season or so with us because he has to stand at the front post to flick on now which doesn’t work

You have to attack dead balls not hope for lucky flicks

It would help at our corners to have someone between halfway and opposition pen area it looks like we put 8 men in and around pen area leaving 2 at back covering one player, but if opposition pull everyone back we put everyone forward except one player leaving us vulnerable to counter attack as we've seen numerous times....
And agree about dead balls into area they are so predictable that defenders easily defend them need whitts type of crossing variable and dangerous, play to our strengths not oppositions . :old:

I agree with you both, I was expecting us to be battering teams in these situations, we have so many big players that can head a ball, but we haven't got anyone to put the ball in the right area.

We need to go back to the drawing board and capitalise on our main advantage!

We have no pave across the back 4 and not much infront of them either, unless it's in the air they are going to struggle.

You never know how / why teams setup like they do - is based on match reports from scouts ? in which case maybe we looked at their last 2 games and played accordingly (which obvioulsy didnt work)

Not sure what is Bacuna's best position ? , he was poor yesterday. What seemed to be a slight concern was the body language / demeanour of the team, almost as if we didnt know what the plan was, how to adapt it or have any creativity

All 3 games so far teams gave targeted same side (left) so they obviously think it's our weakest link? Hopefully NW will see this and correct things? :old:

It’s not difficult to see why city are being picked off by quicker and more skilful teams.
The present squad contains few players with these attributes and are easy pray to teams who can pass around our pedestrian midfield and statuesque defence.
Warnock's obsession with 2 wingers and one man up top is dated and needs to be reviewed.
City are now paying for another abject transfer window.
Warnock needs to realise the championship is different to 2 seasons ago.
Opponents must be salivating at the prospect of seeing off this current outdated tram and tactics.

Could not agree more.Worth pointing out despite all our height we have yet to score a headed goal this season but conceded one against Luton. It is perhaps a bit surprising that thee of our four goals have come in open play.

May be our players just aren’t good enough, whatever the system. Hoofball gets relegation, and deservedly so.

Sadly have to agree with all the previous posts we are looking like cannon fodder unless we can drastically change things quickly

Big game Wednesday we need a result!

Warnock has had to turn things around like the first season here and after a terrible Christmas the season we went up, injuries seem to affect us a lot and we are going through quite a few again now, Etheridge, Pack, Bamba, Patterson, Mendez and sickness for Peltier and Bennett.

With all those injuries Warnock may actually have to play Tomlin (God forbid!). A creative midfielder who can pass the ball, hold on to it, score the off goal - Hell, he may even give us a chance of winning the next match by giving Glatzel some service.
Get Murphy back in the team and give him a run of matches.

Pack - anyone know prognosis re: injury?

What hoofball? You obviously havent watched games because by any strentch of imagination have we been playing hoofball as you call it.. maybe if we did we wouldn't have lost the two games? Nw hasn't changed tactics so by your calculation hoofball got us promoted and nearly kept us up in premier league

Our Strength in the past has been our defence - with us not having that 15 goalscorer a season .

So sort out the defence and move forward with the rest - 7 goals let in 3 games ...Not good enough.

Clean sheet on Wednesday would be nice ;)

That's what Warnock will be working on, we can't leave ourselves exposed from Corners and long throws we are leaking too many goals that way!
