NEIL WARNOCK FURIOUS:

Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:47 am

Neil Warnock was furious with how his team defended after they shipped another three goals away from home on their way to a convincing 3-0 defeat.

Reading cantered to victory at the Madejski Stadium and it now means the Bluebirds have conceded six goals in their first two Championship games on the road this season.

George Puscas capitalised on a seemingly benign Cardiff City set piece to score the Royals' first and the floodgates duly opened. The Cardiff City manager was less than impressed.

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We conceded a goal from our own free-kick, which is such bad defending I still can't believe it, and that gave them a lift," he said.

"Another (piece of) bad defending for the second goal and they go in at half time. But even at half time I thought if we got the third goal, we could get something from the game. There were a couple of good saves etc, but once the third goal went in it was over. End of the game, really.

"We've been poor (away from home), really poor. Wigan was the same, we should have won that game. I don't think it's been an individual really, quite a few of them have made mistakes and we've been punished.

"You've got to defend better than what we did today, we're in the Championship. I think some of the defending was really poor."

"Umm, I wouldn't have said that (it's a hangover)," he added. "I think we've done quite well in the games. The home game (against Luton) we should have won comfortably, I thought we should have won at Wigan.

"But when you defend badly, like we are, it doesn't matter if you're playing Under 13s or in the Premier League, you lose games. So we've got to rectify that.”

"And it's not just defenders, it's what's in front of them as well. It's a team game."

The manager praised the the supporters who made the trip to Berkshire, but acknowledged that they need something to cheer about after that display when Huddersfield come to town on Wednesday.

Lets hope Warnock is 'furious' and not too soft on the players. We need a reaction as a bare minimum on Wednesday.

Spot on - number of players making mistakes defensively that we cannot get away with at this level. Warnock is known for his teams being solidly defensively so this will hurt. I’ve no doubt that once it gets sorted we will start to improve and everything else going forward should start to fall into place.

I am a Warnock fan, but the buck stops with Warnock on what happens on the pitch and so far, 3 awful performance v mediocre sides.

I'm not sure how you can legislate for a general lack of pace.

Exactly I blame warnock

He should be rinsing out his coaches and should have got somone decent in we cant play league one style of football forever. Personally I think He needs help with modern football tactical solutions otherwise we could be fucked this season and I mean literally fucked

One performance was OK, I don't think it's fair to blame a Manager for players making stupid errors, if it carries on for five or six games, but one or two games is different, I am sure he will sort things out quickly like he did when he first arrived here, and after the Christmas bad spell in the promotion season.

Re: NEIL WARNOCK FURIOUS:

We might have defended poorly but the midfield was shocking for the second away game on the trot. No bite or creativity. Sideways football.

Re: NEIL WARNOCK FURIOUS:

So he should be as well that game was painful to watch. Midfield nonexistent in defence and attack, the lack of creativity in the side means we have nothing in the final third and we are also conceding goals from basic errors. We look like we have just come up from league 1 and not just relegated from the prem. So far we have played 3 teams who are tipped to struggle this season and we have lost twice and shipped out 7 goals. With the amount of money Warnock has spent our main threat of attack should not be from a long throw. We must be the most predictable team in the championship. Everything is long and easy to defend against and when we get caught on the counter attack we do not have the pace in the team to deal with it.

From what I saw - we seemed to be hoofing it out from the back to anywhere up the pitch.
Some players werent even looking where they hoofing it to.
Pack going off was a blow (but it shouldnt have been).

I would have thought Murphy should have been before Mendez who was injured last week.
Glatz and Vassell looked good.
Didnt really see enough of Valks.

Radio Wales said the team was going to be a bit 'lop sided' after Pack went off - and they were right. Getting caught out a couple of times and them doing us on the break, shouldnt really happen. The manager I think is trying to get a settled side of about 14 or so key players. As yet though it seems a little disjointed.

I'm neither concerned or bothered , as last week after Luton - I was more than happy. So a bumpy ride ahead, we could do with less head tennis to.

I thought we were going to quick on the counter and hard to beat at the back - but it seems that was the other around yesterday

What the hell is happening with Tomlin, Id like to know? He is the most technically gifted player at the club, with a midfield that has no creativity and yet Warnock can't get him playing or in the team? Following the departure of Reid, when Warnock stated he was building a team around him and didnt want him to leave, yet hardly gave him a game, I'm starting to lose faith in Warnock and have to question, if he's taken on a season, too much. I know he's a miracle worker, so as always, he needs until Christmas for a fair judgement

You’ve got to question the manager when he picks rubbish like bacuna. How can you pick him before Tomlin

Because Tomlin is not fit, how many more posters have to say that.??

I assume you’re talking about pace at the back. If you’re positioning is right to begin with and you have cover then pace isn’t as important. The times we’ve been caught out is when we’ve been out of position and left 1 v 1. If we can change that then we will be fine.

A half fit tomlin is still better

People on this forum should look back to Slade and Trollope era before they start the band wagon up. All about options I guess.

Re: NEIL WARNOCK FURIOUS:

The thing we shouldn’t forget or let Neil off the hook with though is that he assembled this ponderous and pace-adverse bunch.

Additionally he is sticking with Morrison who has been under performing, did not bring in any specialist left or right backs for back up and has replaced Manga with someone who Boro were delighted to get rid of due to his lack of pace / reactions.

I’m sure we will pick up and start performing a bit better but I fear it may be some weeks before that happens and I certainly don’t see any early signs that we have the pace, ambition, stability or flair to make an impact at the top of the table. Reading has a poor first few games but if you read their message boards fans could at least see that they were trying to develop a style of play and the new players had something about them... I don’t feel us fans can say the same about city.

Happy to be proved wrong but early signs are certainly not good

Re: NEIL WARNOCK FURIOUS:

I can’t wrap my head around how he stuck with 4-3-3 all game, we had no left winger at all second half it was really clueless from Warnock I don’t know how he just came up with that formation and line up.. for 20 minutes we was controlling the tempo with Pack but Bacuna should have been brought off with Pack and should went to 4-2-3-1.

Re: NEIL WARNOCK FURIOUS:

I think at some point he is going to have to drop either Morrisson or Flint and play Nelson at centre back to give us some pace in defence.Nelson is supposed to be comfortable bringing the ball out of defence and passing too. That is according to Oxford fans anyway, he didn't look up to much on Sunday. Also paticularly at home we should star with two strikers Glatzel and Vassell possibly at the expense of one winger.Vassell will naturally play out wide anyway. Please god let Warnock pick Tomlin for once just to give us a bit of class in midfield.

Bit unfair Annis, yes he picks the team, but them not stringing two passes together, isn't his fault, lots of players needed a boot up the arse to say the least  but we have to show our support more than ever,I read on another thread some guy called jacksensalot :?: said our support had never been talked of in a good light :laughing5: not what most pundits and reporters were saying,us last year  anyway let's all start again, fans and team, because I'm getting sick of threads ripping in to players and management alike, mostly younger fans who have only known the"good years",and others who only ever slag off new signings, or write them off after a few games,so much for the club and fans being united :sad7: :old: :bluebird:
