Q. That must have been a tough night at office?

A. I always thought the first goal was going to be vital with the way that they play. We had six or seven good opportunities in the first half but we couldn’t take any of them. A deflected goal and that was it. I thought they would have the confidence of keeping the ball and slowing it down.

With the young lads, I think we had to put the team together really quickly and they weren’t really up to speed at times but I have no problems with that. I thought the two full-backs did alright. I know Ciaron (Brown) was at fault for the third goal but I thought he did well overall.

I thought Curtis (Nelson) did really well with Flint so there are some pluses. Paterson got some time fitness wise and or two of the other lads got an opportunity.

Q. Must be frustrated by missing all these chances?

A. We had some really good chances in the first half, having said that, I think we had 20 against them in the league game. We’ve got to be more clinical with the opportunities we’ve got.

Things come thick and fast so onto Fulham now. They keep the ball really well and I think the last two games, we’re talking about 80 percent and 70 percent possession. It will be interesting but the lads that didn’t play tonight are really looking forward to it. I think the Blackburn game gave us a lift and obviously midweek against Huddersfield.

Whilst I’m disappointed with the result, I thought we could take pluses from that tonight. I think it will be a good game Friday. We’ll have a good crowd and the lads are really up for it at the moment. I thought Flinty played well tonight - I had to play one of them because we’ve run out of numbers. Absolutely [Flint will play again on Friday]. He will rest a bit longer tomorrow and Thursday and then be ready for Friday.

Q. A big crowd, anything can happen?

A. Yeah, absolutely, one to look forward to. Not one to worry about. I probably worried more about tonight than Friday, if I'm honest, because I didn't know what was what.

But I think Friday, the lads are looking forward to it. I'm sure Fulham will be as well, Harry (Arter) coming back and that. It'll be a decent game. But we've got to take our opportunities when we get them. Or it'll be a similar situation.

Q. Do you know who your best strikers are?

A. I think Robert (Glatzel) has done really well, but I just think three games in a week is too much for him. I think he'll be looking forward to Friday, against the type of opposition that we've got. A little bit different Blackburn, I think he might thrive at that.

It'll be interesting to see the selection.

Q. It'll be good to see his first goal...

A. It will, yeah. The Huddersfield game, in training he sticks them in, so it's obviously a bit of nerves, he just needs that goal. But I've been really pleased with him, with his contribution. We missed him at Blackburn when he came off, but like I say, his legs were just about to go and I didn't want to risk another hamstring. He's never played three games like this, physical games, in a week. So I didn't want to risk that and I'm glad, talking to him tonight, he's really looking forward to Friday, I think.

Q. Brian Murphy?

A. The thing was, we don;t know about Neil Etheridge at the moment. We let George (Ratcliffe) go out on loan to Barry and he's done excellent. And I think it's more important he gets games at Barry than come back to be number three or four keeper. So I'm just pleased with him getting games.

So we talked about Murph, you know, short term until December, which will just help us out on the training ground and I think Murph is also going to help the academy as well, do some coaching down there which, he's a really good professional, so it was a no-brainer really.

Q. Not coming in to be No. 1?

A. No, he's just come in as cover really. Smudger (Alex Smithies) has got a little bit of a knock so he didn't train a couple of days. No disrespect to the two young lads, but I thought we needed somebody else in there for the training sessions.

It's not an arm and a leg, he's going to mix that with some coaching at the academy, so it will work for both parties.

Q. Not sure about Etheridge, Could it be longer?

A. We don't really know, they're funny things, hamstrings. Same with Packy really, you just don't know. You mentioned one or two of the young lads but (Aaron) Bolger's been injured for four weeks now. We are a bit thin at the minute in that situation.
