" South Wales Police statement on Cardiff v Swansea "

Mon Sep 16, 2019 1:12 pm

We've been working with Swansea City Football Club and Cardiff City Football Club to plan the ticketing and transport of away fans for this season’s fixtures in the EFL Championship.

Monday 16th September 2019

Match commander, Superintendent Steve Jones, said: “Over recent years, fans of both clubs have become well accustomed to the arrangements put in place to ensure the safety of supporters, which has included a full police escort for away fans.

“The good behaviour of fans as well as the effective stewarding and policing have all combined to create an enjoyable occasion and has given a very positive impression of the South Wales derby fixtures.

“Policing of football matches has changed over the six seasons since the clubs last met, with the number of banning orders and arrests at Swansea and Cardiff home matches much lower now than previously.

“We have held numerous meetings with representatives from both clubs and taken on board the views and concerns from previous fixtures.

“Learning from these experiences, the plan for the next fixture on October 27 will be less restrictive for visiting supporters but there will still be proportionate arrangements in place to ensure their safety.

“This will include a designated ticket collection point for away fans, managed by the clubs, which supporters will travel to on official coaches and exchange a voucher for a match ticket. There will then be a police escort from the collection point to the Liberty Stadium.

“A robust policing plan will be in place and while we continue our work to deliver a safe event for all, we now want the focus to be on the match itself.”

Virtually No different than previous years

Just the same as in previous years then. Fans still banned from traveling on their own. Escort to stadium from R V point. No enjoyment for fans.

Can anyone explain how the arrangements are "less restrictive for visiting supporters"? It's a bubble match. End of.

I always thought it would be and no idea why they are trying to make out it is anything other than a bubble match.

Strange language used.

Its a bubble.

Being given your match ticket at rendezvous point instead of anywhere closer to Cardiff. But a bubble as you can only travel in the bubble.

Its fine. Expected. Just call it what it is.

Exactly the same then. I don't blame them to be honest. Anything less would be absolute carnage

Right this is how in theory it works? Fans in cardiff area go to ccs to get coach and tickets fans who live on way to swansea bridgend ect pick up coaches plus tickets they then go to rendezvous point await escort to ground... now fans in sa post codes can go to rendezvous point in Swansea get on coach to ground ! How arrange coach to ground presume that's fone via supporters club ect hopevthis makes sense ? Do not quite a complete bubble..

Think SWP have missed a chance here to manage this game without out a bubble.
There's a very limited train service on a Sunday morning and they could of instructed pubs not to open till 11.30.
Fans who want to travel by car would be happy majority would keep quiet and colours covered.
You would still get some trouble from people intent on it but you wouldn't get less ordinary fans who have had a few getting involved.

How come the Avon and SW Police can handle an escort from the pub near Temple Meads Station to Ashton Gate but SWP can't do the same from Swansea Station to The Liberty?

I don't get it, must be a similar distance so how come?
