‘ CARDIFF CITY & BRISTOL CITY ‘

Wed Jan 15, 2020 12:52 pm

Bristol City are the only side in the top half of the table to have unfortunately matched Cardiff's tally of 40 goals conceded this term, which is more than the Bluebirds let in for the whole of the 2017/1’ CARDIFF & BRISTOL City ‘8 season under Warnock.

Tightening things up in terms of how his defence operate off the ball will clearly be crucial to any success for Harris, but it's what his defence are doing with the ball that may now come as a bigger concern.

New stats show that four of the Championship's five worst defenders for passing accuracy are currently wearing the blue of Cardiff.

Captain Sean Morrison was a colossus in the derby day draw with the Swans, but with a passing rate of just 54.8%, he is the defender with the worst passing stats in the division.

You have to take these stats with a pinch of salt. Any side which knocks the ball around at the back for ten minutes without going anywhere is going to have a high accuracy passing accuracy and high possession statistic.

Its the quality of the pass and possession that matters. We probably had poor stats in our promotion season because we got the ball forward early and thus the passes were more likely to be cut out.

Exactly. I'm sure I remember a stat about us having poor passing accuracy but the most chances on goal and most time on possession in final third.

Stats can pretty much be used to show what they want.

Obviously goals are best. But I'd much rather my team have plenty of shots on target than tippy tappy 95 percent CB passing accuracy.

Look at Fulham earlier this season. Never looked like scoring, yet had about 70 percent of the ball.

I wouldn't worry about that, we spent the first half of the season hoofing the ball 60 yards from defence. I'd like to see a stat showing the difference now Harris is in charge. He does at least try to pass the ball a little more than the Warnock regime.

Agreed, I was just watching his pre match presser for Carlisle and he said we had about the same amount of passes as Swansea. So that shows that we are playing much more ‘football’ now. But you can still see that some players first instinct is to look long sometimes, but hopefully that will improve with time. Morrison looked more composed on the ball than I’ve ever seen in a city shirt on Sunday. And that ball he clipped into Glatzel in the first half was outstanding.

The the possession stats for swans game read 50/50 or 49/50 depending on stats used so if thats case passing must been fairly close as well! The other match stats close as well, but apparently only had one shot on target late in game. So things have improved in some ways but the football is very hit miss at moment.

Is symptomatic of the fact we are a team who struggles to play even simple pass and move football. We really are light years behind some clubs who all have established themselves a way of playing. Warnock gave us a playing identity even if it wore off in the end. Currently and before Warnock we have struggled to maintain an identity across more than one manager. You could say NH is looking to maintain Warnock’s style but in truth (if we exclude this season) it is nothing of the sort

Unfortunately
We have a team with almost no football players in it.

Moan and blame Harris if you like, but this goes back some time.

We must really focus on the Academy and not f**k round with it - its the heart of a club like us.

What ever anyone’s opinion of this, Cardiff’s defence has been over all awful this season

Or here's another stat about our defence. Cardiff have only lost 7 games this season. Only 4 Championship teams have lost less!

Just look at our defence again near bottom of League 2 Carlisle, it says it all and Harris is in charge.
