On a more serious note, he is still recovering from the knee injury suffered in the road traffic collision that saw Mason Bennett and Tom Laurence banned for 2 years for a drink driving incident
Derby offered him reduced terms, which he declined under the terms of his contract, so they sacked him instead and he remains clubless

But he was taking it further I thought.
Although I did read somewhere it was in his contract that they would be entitled to get shot of him.

It would all depend on the terms and conditions of the individual contracts. I can't believe for one minute there was not a clause to terminate his contract should his conduct outside work bring the club into disrepute. His actions had a direct affect on Derby County as due to his own negligence he suffered a long term injury to his knee and the circumstances surrounding how it happened reflected badly on the club as he was Captain.
The other players involved whilst being just as guilty didn't injure themselves in the same way and were able to continue to play for the club, thus reducing the impact on their working time with the club.
It may seem harsh but I can perfectly see Derby County's point of view and I believe they would have a strong case in court.

it will go to court mate. he turned down the reduced contract on legal advice..
I don't see how you can not sack to convicted drink drivers but sack the fella they abandoned unconscious in the car ?

I think it’s about the fact he can’t play due to reckless or negligent endeavour on his part. That in, getting in a car with drink drivers. The legal part is whether it counts as reckless or negligent endeavour. He will also quite rightly point to the person driving the car being a player who wasn’t sacked.
However they were different things entirely.
Certainly the club’s insurance would not pay anything towards his wages due to the circumstances of the crash.
