:bluescarf: :bluebird: NEIL HARRIS TODAY UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS :bluebird: :bluescarf:

Neil Harris' warning on transfers -

Neil Harris insists he will not get ‘bullied’ into paying over the odds for players in the January transfer window.

HARRIS:

“I will not be bullied in to buying players for the sake of it.”

Four players have left Cardiff so far. Armand Traore and Brian Murphy have not had their contracts extended, Ciaron Brown has gone on loan to Livingston, plus Madine's exit and gone on a Free to Blackpool with Cardiff settling with Madine. There is potential for Cameron Coxe and Mark Harris to be sent out on loan.

Plus more players to leave.

Friday 17th January 2020

NEIL HARRIS:

Injuries?

"No, other than the long-term ones we are OK. The boys are going well, recovering well and we are good."

Long trip, recovered?

"Yeah, pleasing result. Not ideal but modern sports sciences etc means we just have to adjust our plans."

Any transfer movement?

NEIL HARRIS:

"No, as we were. A lot of discussions, talking to managers and agents and players with the permission of all parties.
It’s a really positive period for us on the training pitch. Can we support it with a player or two? Possibly. We’ll have to wait and see."

Any players give food for thought?

NEIL HARRIS:

"Possibly. When you go away from home and get a good result it always puts pleasing thoughts in your mind. The previous game against Swansea, Callum, Josh and Gavin played because they all did well in the Carlisle game before."

U23s manager search

NEIL HARRIS:

"There’s been discussions with candidates and a really good level of candidates. That will be revisited in the coming week to find the right personnel. The guys who applied and the guys I’ve met and seen are very good calibre.
An announcement will be in due course."

NEIL HARRIS:

On Joe Ralls

"He plays wholehearted. That’s why we saw a very tired Joe Ralls in the last 10 minutes on Wednesday evening. It’s great to have him in the group, he’s very popular among the lads."

"I’m really pleased with the squad I’ve got, but we are really pleased with the group we’ve got at the moment. It is tighter, numbers-wise, and Joe adding to the dynamics of that midfield is good options for us."

NEIL HARRIS:

Working hard then?

"I don’t think that changes for managers. We are working every hour we can to find the right deals for us. They have to be the right deals, we’re not going to overpay or do deals we don’t want to do because you end up signing players for the wrong value.
"Every transfer window has been last-day scramble, but you have a game…"

"Ideally, you know you want to let three players on and let three players leave and get it done on January 1. But it doesn’t happen like that. Because there is a deadline everyone feels like they can go to deadline. You end up having 40 deals on deadline day and 200 others that don’t happen."

"I prefer to be set and organised and work with the players as long as we can. If it means we have to go to deadline day then so be it but moving forward I don’t want that to happen."

“I'd like to place on record our thanks to the fans that travelled to Carlisle. “

“I can't quite believe the amount that were here – it's a long old drive. But we're really pleased for everyone."

Re: NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

Fans look at other clubs, halfway through the window now, should they be concerned?

"I think concerned is the wrong word. The reality is that clubs who have signed players, and there’s not a lot of clubs that have signed players, you look at the stability within their club since the start of the season, from pre-season, working with the players, having stability off the field, i.e. the recruitment department, things like that, enables you to be in a very good position each transfer window.I"

"It’s a bit different for us, with me not being here that long and with a new recruitment department being set up, it doesn’t make it as easy to do business."

"So we are in that period at the moment.
But we have identified players and I have certainly identified players who can add quality to the group.
If we can get them then brilliant."

"I am really happy with the group but I’m not saying we’re not going to add to it. That’s not the case, we are trying, but again, as ever, it has to be the right personnel."

Anyone want out?

"There’s always interest in players, but it has to be correct for the club and the players. The players have to be happy. Anybody who might be leaving might be a work in progress."

NEIL HARRIS:

On Birmingham

"Another strong Championship side. They played quite direct in the last couple of games and they’ve had two very good results. Going to St Andrews is an enjoyable away day as a player, manager and fan. We know their strengths and know where we can affect them. I’m looking forward to seeing the players again."

"Can we be every bit as good as we were against Swansea?"

NEIL HARRIS:

What is Callum Paterson's best position?

"Callum played as a 9 and a half at Carlisle and did well. Played as a 10 at Charlton, up top against Swansea. Has done well. Wouldn’t hesitate to use him in wide areas in certain games. Callum is a vital member of the squad. He is just effective in the front areas of the pitch."

Re: NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

Would you like a director of football?

"That’s a case of the board understanding how I work and me understanding how the board work. Every club is different. The recruitment department left when I came in and that leaves a hole. New chief scouts in and scouts underneath."

"Director of football, head of recruitment sometimes, someone who sits between the manager and the board and chief scouts, that is something for the club to consider over a period of time."

"That’s a club decision. All I’m interested in is whatever works for us to work as smoothly as possible.
If it’s something the club considers in the future then I’d support it."

NEIL HARRIS:

Loan regulations? Do they need tightening in light of Bowyer/Gallagher?

"That’s when it comes down to terms of the loan. Lee would have known he could have lost a player in January if there was nothing that said he was staying for the season. That’s what the loan is there for, to get the best for the club and the player.
You have to get the deals right."

"I don’t know the ins and out. But a club loaning a player to us, Swansea, Charlton, Middlesbrough, that’s their prerogative. But the loans can work. "

Re: NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

Summer likely to be the moment you put more of a stamp on this team?

NEIL HARRIS:

"I think that’s safe to assume. Overhaul? I’m not sure about that. In terms of us being more structured, more set and have a greater understanding of what the group will do. It gives us more time to be ready. Now we are looking and you don’t want short terms and quick fixes. You want players you can develop and look to the future."

"Loans in January are usually the ones that tend to happen because of the inflated market in January."

Re: NEIL HARRIS:

NEIL HARRIS:

Do you enjoy the January window?

"It’s part of the job, that’s for sure. Once you get the players over the line, that’s the enjoyment, like winning a game of football. It’s not always enjoyable dealing with intermediaries in the middle. That can be tough.
It’s part of the game, I understand that and there’s some really good agents out there as well.
We’ve been close to things and then it just fades and disappears. That’s the hard side of it and it’s still frustrating and doesn’t get any easier."

"Always expect the unexpected in January."

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS:

How many are you looking for?

NEIL HARRIS:

"It depends if anyone else goes out. I wouldn’t really want to lose anyone without replacing them if I’m honest. We’re at a good number now. Someone like Cameron Coxe needs to get out and play if he can."

"It is a good size, so for anyone to go I’d want to replace them."

NEIL HARRIS:

Iwan Roberts and the heading/concussion study

"I don’t overthink that. It wasn’t one of my strengths, heading the ball. I learnt at a young age, when you’re diagnosed with cancer at 23, you have to be mindful of your health. It gives you a perspective that you can’t worry about everything.
Heading a ball, for me, I don’t overthink that one. Having the check-ups, and the way the players are looked after is hugely important."

"Any concern whatsoever get yourself checked out."

NEIL HARRIS:

Learning anything from the Wales rugby boys?

"I’m really interested in how other teams work. Rugby, proper game. Tough, fast, looking at how they work and if there’s anything we can pick up will be interested. If I can watch training I certainly will do.
Other football managers, rugby, cricket, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, it’s amazing what you can pick up."

"If I get a chance.
I played at school, I played on the wing so I was out the way!"

Re: BREAKING NEIL HARRIS:

Fri Jan 17, 2020 12:28 pm

New contracts for players out of contract this season? Ward, Peltier etc.

NEIL HARRIS:

"In the background, yes. Players I think highly of, Danny and Lee. Lee has played nearly every game for me since I’ve been here and been outstanding."

"I can’t speak highly enough of him as a pro. And Danny, a striker in and out the team, impact off the bench, a goal the other night, lots to consider."

"Lots to consider for the player as well. Family situation, where they live, what they want to do, are they happy? So talks ongoing with personnel."

"But I’m really happy with the squad at the moment."
