is Dave jones really learning?

Wed Aug 25, 2010 7:21 am

According to reports from people at the match once again cardiff were over run in the middle in the 2nd half.If this is so it doesnt appear that Dave Jones has learnt anything as these have been the exact problems for a long time

it depends on what players you have in the midfield. McPhail is a good passer of a ball but doesn't exactly put himself about around the field and tends to sit in a small area of the pitch whereas Olifinjana is busting a gut to get tackles in and does travel around the pitch a little. Added to this McPhail isn't anywhere near fit

my mate went up and said Cardiff switched off the last 20 mins , Gerrard was fat and slow and Hudson was shite ! Heaton made some brill saves . We so need a reserve league for the players to get fitter ? :ayatollah:

But things have to change from last year otherwise we are going to have the same problem and teams appear to know how to overcome it

I thought Gerrard was quite good and really tried. NO Plan B.

Think you've hit the nail on the head Martyn. I know there is a big cost involved but we cant afford for players using first team game time to get fit from injury.

Exactly , Annis said that Gerrard tried but he's clearly nowhere near match fit yet and needs game time :ayatollah:

Thats why I was upset when WE got rid of the Reserve team.

For God sake, people critisising Dave Jones again, Lay off him. We go from praise after hammering doncaster to giving him stick because we lost a difficult tie in a mikey mouse cup on a wet horrible light. I am glad we lost-we can now concentrate on the league. DJ is not stupid and knows what hes doing, a very intelligent manager- we GOT to loose some games for gods sake. stop critisising, we have never been on such a high at cardiff and dave jones is a massive part of that and then you say hes not learning

I'm not critising Dave Jones, far from it. I think he has done quite an excellent job over the years with everything that has gone on. I just think that players, returning from injury, should be able to get fit in non competitive games.

good point, i was just defending the top comment where the poster is critising the midfield/middle being over run and that it's dj's fault

I QUESTIONED his tactics/judgement and STICK to it because he seems o have the SAME problems over and over again and never appears to have a plan b to overcome it That was VERY evident in the final .He always blames everybody else (players not fit ) (players didnt try enough)(can not bring in any players)Getting them to try more is HIS job He has brought in new players and i we still have te same problem .Who is to blame for continuously having the same problem?

That's fair enough if you are talking about last season, but in our two home league games so far we have switched formations and we played 4-5-1 last night - Dave Jones has found a Plan B this season (and maybe a C and D as well). It seems to me that the problem we had last night was that we had four important players lacking in match fitness (Gerrard, Naylor, McPhail and Koumas) while others like Olofinjana and Wildig could do with more game time as well.

Having said that, if Dave Jones had any input into the decision to scrap our reserve team (and I'm pretty sure he did), then that was a mistake in my book. I agree with Annis - we need a reserve team and it was interesting to hear Dave Jones say in his post match interview that the club were trying to organise a game for Chris Riggott, it wouldn't be a problem if we had a proper reserve team playing games a couple of times a month.

Must agree with the comments about players needing to be 'brought up to fitness' in Reserve Team-style games. Sort of gives the impression otherwise that we were't that interested in the competition, although the first hour performance last night showed we were 'up' for it....

Thought we could have scored more early on nd that Gerrard was OK until late on. Hudson is rapidly becoming an enigma, as I beieve he is a pretty good defender overall, but has the unfortunate knack of (a) giving the ball to the opposition, and (b) making basic but fatal errors that cost lots during a game.

Not sure why Gerrard is out of favour (anyone know??) but it has been suggested that he came back overweight and DJ was less than pleased. Is that right??

With so many 'quality' players on our books now and 'things' moving forward off-the-field, perhaps now is a good time to re-join the Combination League (or whatever it is called these days) as it would make sense to have some sort of competition, even if that is relatively superficial.

Makes sense to me....what say y'all????

Appreciate your very valid points. However DJS comments on tv were something like too many players decided not to work enough or tackle(something like that)IF that is the case then it is HIS job to motivate them to last 90 mins or whatever is neededThey are similar comments to what we have heard before time and time again and yet we have quite a few different players I am not saying that you are not right with a lot of your comments but i do get frustrated with the same kind of basic things happening far too often regardless of what players he picks

No one is having a go at him, its a healthy debate, WE ARE ALL BEHIND CARDIFF CITY and TEAM/MANAGEMENT, Even stayed and Clapped them off the pitch last night, after loosing to Posh :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I only judge DJ on championship results. if we're taking 3 pts on a regular basis and putting one foot in the premier league, i couldnt give a shit about the other competitions..... (maybe Jones attitude to that is different) but as a fan, thats what is more important to me.

So far we are unbeaten, and sitting in 2nd place. We've signed a mass of quality players so far, inc. the prodigal one! So i for one am extremely happy with DJ at the moment.
