The dramatic Championship promotion odds change for Cardiff City as Swansea City fall away and Leeds United cling on to automatic spot

Thursday 13th February 2020

The Bluebirds have enjoyed an upsurge in form of late while the Swans have stumbled, which has resulted in the the promotion odds taking a huge twist in recent weeks

Swansea City boss Steve Cooper and Cardiff City's Neil Harris
In the space of just a few short weeks, the odds for promotion to the Premier League have changed dramatically.

For the Welsh clubs, fortunes have tipped on their head in the last month or so, with Cardiff enjoying a tremendous run of form, while Swansea are now four games without a win.

Neil Harris' side have picked up three wins in their last four outings, including a stunning victory over league leaders West Brom and last night's tremendous 3-0 triumph over Huddersfield.

It puts the Bluebirds in eighth place and right in the play-off hunt, just four points off Preston in sixth. Their promotion odds in just one month have shortened from 28/1 to 20/1, with a few outlets now even placing them at 16/1.

It's a different story for Steve Cooper's Swans, however.

Swansea have dramatically fallen away with the bookmakers', with their last four fixtures having yielded just two points.

This time last month, the Swans were 10/1 to get promoted back up to the top flight, now they have drifted out dramatically to 25/1.

At the top, there is no change for West Brom, who, after their wobble around the New Year, are still 1/7 to get out of the division.

Leeds United's plight, however, has been well documented.

Marcelo Bielsa's side have won just two of their last 11 Championship fixtures, a run which started when they ceded a three-goal lead to draw with Cardiff back in December, and have now seen the gap between them and third-placed Brentford tighten.

In fact, the Bees are now level on points with Leeds and will look to capitalise on their slump as the Championship hits crunch point.

With just 14 games to go, here is how the promotion odds look.

West Brom 1/7

Leeds 1/3

The bookies are not making any predictions merely reflecting every teams place in the table. So we are eighth favourites according to the bookies and eighth in the table. Bristol are seventh in the table and seventh favourites with the bookies. Bristols next two games are against Leeds and WBA so we should probably be the same odds as them.

If our current form continues and out fixtures look relatively benign possibly the sixth and final playoff spot might be between Us Preston and Bristol. Still cautious but Harris migh just have tuned things around.
