No, they sent in the ultimate housemates after Josie was announced the winner. There are people like John McRirick, Ulrika Johnson, Chantelle, Preston, Brian, Nicky, Coolio etc...

Josie was favourite to win again I think.

 Officially this is still part of the last BB. That's it then, although, Channel 5 are supposed to be taking it on instead.

I know I am a bit of an old fogey , but can someone please explain to me what Big Brother is all about , and what its attraction is?

I watched it once a few years ago and all it seems to be is a bunch of halfwits sitting around doing nothing and talking gibberish. With a voiceover by someone with a Geordie accent who speaks so slowly that its like he is addressing an audience of total retards (maybe he is!)

The other one that gets to me is that Deal or No Deal thing. All it is is someone guessing which box has a token for a big sum of money in - no skill involved at all , just pure chance - which should take no more than 2 minutes. Yet they manage to make a half hour programme out of it!!

If you don't like it, you don't like it! I'm not sure its necessary to say that the audience may be a bunch of retards though.

I do find it interesting how people who don't watch program and who don't like a program still manage to comment on it. They even have people going on phone in's to slag off BB and these people claim they don't watch it.

I don't like the South Bank Show, I've never liked it, and so I don't watch it. When it's on I restrict myself to the 500 other channels available. I appreciate that there are some people out there who do like the the south bank show and good luck to them. I can't stand Eastenders as well but respect that a lot of people do. Again I just don't bother watching it and it bothers me not in the slightest that others like it and watch it.

I think that you can make comparisons here. Some people go out beating up gay blokes rather than live and let live they attack them and shout abuse at them. The reason being apparently is they are closet gay themselves and they try to hide it by attacking other gay people.
So does that also mean that people who go out of their way to attack Big Brother are secret fans and are just trying to hide it?

You are quite right Claire. I shouldn`t have added the "maybe he is" bit. I apologise - not just an old fogey , but a grumpy one today :old:  But why does the guy speak as if he is talking to a group of nursery school pupils?

I am probably in a very small minority of people who don`t like or understand either programme. But could those who do help me out and explain to me what they are all about as I genuinely don`t understand.

Keith, the idea of it in the beginning was to get a bunch of people who wouldn't get on and lock them in a house with 24 hour cameras on them.
You'd get say a black guy and a racist. A feminist and a model. So on and so on. There would also be a normal everyday type of person in there as well who would be driven nuts by the rest of them. They would then put them under pressure by depriving them of decent food and the only way of getting food, fags and other treats was to pull together as a group, which was mostly never going to happen. Questions like "I wonder what would happen if we did this to them?" was usually answered on a regular basis.
As you can imagine there was a lot of arguing, fighting, screaming and shouting. Also in the earlier series there used to be lots of nudity, which of course helped the viewing figures. Lots of blokes watched it "only because the mrs does".
The idea of the 24 hour feed meant you could jump in and out whenever you wanted. One series used the "red button" where you could choose rooms etc.

It seems to me (and this is just my opinion) that the early series was quite experimental and none of the big wig producers etc went near it. It was left to the lower ranks to make it work. Then because they did make it work and made it really successful, the big wigs jumped in and pushed them aside. These big wigs then totally destroyed the program by messing about with it. Gone were the people off the street only to be replaced mostly by hand picked agency people and those who's daddy had paid a big sum of money to get them in. Not forgetting the "I just want to be famous" clan that also destroyed the program.

The number one point about Big Brother though, right throughout was not to manipulate the people inside the house but to manipulate the people watching it. Big Brother could, and did, choose who was getting evicted and who was going to win by carefully manipulating the viewing public. That in a big way mimics the media and their manipulation of all of us in our everyday lives when you think about it.
