It is with an immeasurable amount of sorrow that we must inform supporters that Peter Whittingham has passed away at the age of 35.
We are heartbroken.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=213619 The news of Peter’s sudden and untimely passing has shaken us to our very foundation. Our love goes out to his wife Amanda, their young son and family. They are at the forefront of our thoughts and, on their behalf, we ask for their privacy to be respected at this unfathomably cruel and difficult time.
First and foremost, Peter was a family man - and somebody who could light up a room with his sense of humour, warmth and personality. Then, as a professional footballer - as a Bluebird - he excelled with talent, ease, grace and humility. Nobody did it better.
The loss of Peter will be painfully felt by our city, supporters and indeed all who ever had the pleasure of knowing him. We love you Pete and your memory will eternally stay with us.

RIP Whitts . A true Bluebird legend. Absolutely dreadful news and our thoughts go out to his family and friends

Absolutely devastated by this sad news, one of my all time favourite players in 57 years supporting City. To have played the number of games he did in this day and age when in all honesty he could have gone to a Premier League team years ago showed how committed he was to our club.
God bless you Peter

Bristol City supporter here.
Such sad news about Peter Whittingham, sending condolences to his family and friends and all you bluebirds who will obviously be impacted by this devastating news.
He was up there with the best left footed footballers I ever had the pleasure to see.
Lots of messages being left on a City message board. At times like this it shows what a powerful family us football supporters are.
I'll always remember his brilliant free kicks and commitment to the blue shirt.
May he rest in peace

The words of the club's statement have left me feeling emotional. It was an honour to have seen him blossom at CCFC. Never, ever to be forgotten. God bless.

It sounds strange as you never really meet the players of the team you support, but from watching them play for years at the club you kind of feel like you know them, and that's how it feels right now. Like an old friend has died.
Peter Whttingham has given me some of my favourite moments watching Cardiff over the last 15 or so years, and I was devastated to see him leave the club a few seasons back because I knew we would probably never see him kick a ball again, but never in my wildest nightmares could I have ever imagined that this would happen.
From his goal against Boro to send us through to the F.A cup semi final in 2008, to his free kick against Leicester helping us on the way to the play off final and to his numerous hatricks, screamers and nonchalant celebrations, I'll never forget the times Peter Whittingham was on that pitch.
Rest easy, Whitts. A true Cardiff legend.

R.I.P Whitts I loved watching you play for the Bluebirds and you have left us all with so many fantastic memories which will remain with me FOREVER.

Sometimes life just doesnt seem fair.
He seemed a lovely fella, family man, young son, stayed living local - and on top of all that - a match winner.
Lost count the number of times he cut the mustard for us in terms of saving our ass on the pitch - such a pity it ended like this for him and it seems there was nothing that could have been done to save him. It could have and should have been so much better for him than this.
And such a pity we will probably wont be able to do anything to remember him until this virus has gone away.
Heartfelt sympathies go out to his family in all of this. I think I'll have a few glasses tonight and watch some old games on youtube of Whitts - doing what he wanted

I think we really should have that testimonial for him now. He more than most in recent years was a true legend of the club. He gave so much over so long. Devastating for his family. I had a health care last week and all I could think about was my little girl growing up without me. I can't bear to think what they are going through. We should show his family how much he was loved by the club and it's supporters.

Absolutely devastated to hear that Peter Whittingham has unfortunately not made it and has tragically passed away at just 35. Thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.

RIP Peter Whittingham fantastic player. As mentioned above by Kafka his goals against Middlesbrough (FA Cup Q/F) and Leicester (Play-off S/F) will live in the memory forever.
However, my favourite PW game was against Colchester in 2007. City were 1-0 down at half-time after a dreadful first half performance. As legend goes Terry Burton did the half-time talk which saw a PW inspired super performance with the Bluebirds scoring 4 second half goals with 2 from the magical PW.
He was unplayable in the second half it was the most inspiring performance I have seen from a Cardiff player in years.

Absolutely gutted. Don't know what to say. RIP Peter a great footballer but more importantly a great man. Condolences to his family.

A tragedy is a word that is often used particularly by people who wouldn't know a real tragedy if it hit them in the face but to lose Peter, particularly under the circumstances of his untimely death is in my view a real tragedy not only for his loving family and friends but for the fans who were astounded by his natural ability with the range of his passing and of course his huge sckill at dead ball situations..God bless you Peter and God bless your loving family

Consistently one of the best players outside the prem for a ten year period. RIP Peter Whittingham.
Thu Mar 19, 2020 6:37 pm
Even more sad news in these depressing times. I consider Peter to be the footballer who gave me more highlights than any other during the period he played for the Bluebirds. RIP and thanks for those memories.
