Lee Tomlin issues rare update on Cardiff City injury recovery

Wednesday 25tth March 2020

Cardiff City attacking midfielder Lee Tomlin has shared a video update on his recovery from the knee injury which kept him out of the four matches prior to the EFL’s fixture suspension.

Tomlin was ruled out for between six and eight weeks after sustaining the injury during a training session back in late February, but the EFL’s decision to suspend all matches until April 30th at the earliest means that Tomlin could yet play a role for his side this term.

The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the most important players in the Cardiff side since Neil Harris’ arrival at the club, with Tomlin having scored seven goals and registered seven assists during an impressive campaign for the Bluebirds.

It was clear to see how Cardiff missed Tomlin’s creative presence as they failed to score in the first two matches without his services, but Harris’ men have since picked up four points from their last two games to climb up to within two points of the play-off spots.

Tomlin has now taken to Instagram to share a rare update on his recovery from the serious knee problem, with the former Bristol City man sharing a video clip of him running on his treadmill as he continues his progress at home as a result of government restrictions.

Tomlin has endured a mixed time in south Wales since his transfer from Bristol City back in 2017, but this has comfortably been his most successful season with the Bluebirds as he has become a highly valued member of Harris’ squad.

The Verdict

The fixture suspension did not come at a good time for Cardiff given they had looked set to start building some momentum following their win over Barnsley, but the postponement of matches may now mean that Tomlin could yet play a key role in the final run-in.

The attacking midfielder had looked set to miss most of the rest of the season due to his significant injury trouble, but he will now be stepping up his recovery in an attempt to prove his fitness ahead of Cardiff’s final nine matches when they eventually resume.

There should be no underestimating Tomlin’s importance to this Cardiff side given the boundless creativity he adds to the midfield, and the 31-year-old will definitely make a vital contribution to any potential promotion effort from the south Wales outfit.
