We are all about to get a second wave in Europe. Hopefully not as widespread as the first but I can see countrywide lockdowns coming in August/September. We all opened up a month too early in my opinion.

I can't see how local lockdowns can work unless roads are blocked which they are not

Suppose majorca was added to exempt list. If you holiday in high risk area of Spain then take internal flight to majorca then catch flight to UK you could spread virus as you don't need to quarantine.

The whole of Spain should be closed for UK flights until virus rate drop. I would thought we had learnt that lesson by now.

Coronavirus: Boris Johnson warns of Europe 'second wave' amid Spain row -

Boris Johnson has warned there are signs of a "second wave" of coronavirus in Europe, as he defended a 14-day quarantine on travellers from Spain.

The PM said the government had to be "swift" - and hinted at further action against other countries if necessary.

But airline Jet2 said information from the government was "contradictory and often comes with little or no notice".

It comes after the Spanish prime minister called the UK's decision to change the rules for Spain "unjust".

Pedro Sánchez said tourists in most regions in Spain would be safer from coronavirus than in the UK.

The UK is advising against all non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands. It also removed Spain and its islands from the list of countries that are exempt from the 14-day quarantine rule.

Mr Johnson said it was up to individuals to decide whether they wanted to take the risk of travelling during the pandemic.

"These are decisions for families, for individuals, about where they want to go," he said.

Meanwhile, Germany has advised against travel to three areas of Spain.

If they have learned anything they should tighten everything up now, most countries are showing spikes .

Bring in tighter social distancing straight away. Close the pubs and stop foreign holidays for a month.

If we stay as we are now , we go back into a full lockdown in 3/4 weeks.
We need proper social distancing. Its not about being a coronaphobe its about being sensible and making the correct decisions regarding health not just wealth.

Nobody needs to be traveling abroad on holiday this year its just selfish. Most of the country is twking this seriously the small minority will ruin all the hard work of the last few months.

Here is what has happened across the UK today.

Travel bosses have urged the prime minister to replace blanket quarantine measures on countries with regional travel corridors, as they warned the sector "risks being permanently scarred"

It comes as Transport Secretary Grant Shapps arrived back in the country to begin his own 14-day quarantine after a holiday in Spain. He said he is "desperately sorry" to those who have lost their holiday but that the measures were "essential"

A possible coronavirus cluster is being investigated in the Glasgow area after 14 new cases were reported there. An alcohol ban has also been placed on a Glasgow park after antisocial behaviour, police said, with the weather set to get warmer towards then end of the week

An outbreak linked to a pub in Staffordshire has led to a local testing centre being set up with reports of "hundreds" of people getting tested

Barclays boss Jes Staley has signalled he wants employees, who have been working from home, back in the office "over time"

BREAKING -
Self-isolation period extended to 10 days

People who display symptoms of coronavirus must self-isolate for a minimum of 10 days, the UK’s four chief medical officers say.

The increase from seven days comes as ministers try to avoid a resurgence of the virus in the UK.

The medical officers are issuing the advice based on new evidence that people with mild to moderate symptoms may still be infectious days after the onset of the virus.

People are most infectious before symptoms begin displaying and during the first few days of the illness. But scientists say there is a possibility some people may still transmit the virus for up to nine days after they become unwell.

The new advice brings the UK in line with guidance issued by the World Health Organization.

Coronavirus: Home visits banned in parts of northern England

Separate households will not be allowed to meet indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire from midnight, the government has announced.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said an "increasing rate of transmission" had been identified in those areas.

"The spread is largely due to households meeting and not abiding to social distancing," he said.

He also said the same restrictions will apply to the city of Leicester.

But pubs, restaurants and some other facilities are to be allowed to reopen from Monday in Leicester - where a local lockdown has been in place since last month - sources have told the BBC.

Millions of people in Greater Manchester, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Rossendale, Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees will be affected by the tightening of restrictions.

It is unclear whether the rules will also apply to pubs, restaurants, private gardens and places of worship.

On Thursday, a further 38 people in the UK died, bringing the total number of Covid-19 associated deaths to 45,999.

And 846 cases were reported - the highest number of cases in a day for a month.

UK reports another 120 deaths

A further 120 deaths have been recorded in the UK, bringing the total number of people who have died after a positive Covid-19 test to 46,119.

There were another 880 cases confirmed by testing in the last 24 hours.

Boris Johnson has postponed lockdown easing in England for at least two weeks amid concerns over an increase in coronavirus cases, saying it’s time to "squeeze the brake pedal".

Face coverings are to become mandatory in additional settings in England, including museums and places of worship - it will become law on 8 August

There have been more than 300,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far in the UK and around 46,000 people have died, according to government figures.

Coronavirus in Wales: Up to 30 can meet outdoors and gyms to reopen

Up to 30 people can meet outdoors and children under 11 will not have to social distance in Wales from Monday.

Swimming pools, gyms, leisure centres and indoor play areas, including soft play, will be allowed to reopen from 10 August.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said the new guidance for children was because of their lower rates of transmission.

Licensed wedding venues will be able to reopen from Monday, but receptions will need to be outdoors.

Meanwhile:

Indoor bowling alleys, auction houses and bingo halls will be able to resume trading on Monday, alongside indoor pubs, restaurants and cafes - providing there is social distancing

Swimming pools, spas, indoor leisure centres, gyms and children's indoor play can open on 10 August, as long as coronavirus conditions "remain favourable"

Licensed wedding venues will be able to reopen from Monday in Wales.

The changes are part of the latest review to the coronavirus rules in Wales.

Pubs or "other activities" in England may need to close to allow schools to reopen next month, a scientist advising the government has said. Prof Graham Medley told the BBC there may need to be a "trade-off", with the re-opening of schools seen as "a priority" for children's wellbeing.

More than two million people shielding against coronavirus in most of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland can now leave their home and return to work.

Residents in popular resorts have said they are "too scared" to go food shopping because of visitors pouring down narrow streets and ignoring social distancing.

Businesses that have furloughed staff during the coronavirus pandemic must now start contributing to the government's job retention scheme.

The Coastguard had its busiest day for more than four years on Friday, when the UK recorded its third hottest day ever, dealing with more than 300 incidents.

Have to disagree sorry.. most people I see are still observing social distancing. Its a minority of thickos who arent. And a weak Govt and Police force no longer able to function.

UK death figure are higher because we report differently. If we reported the same as other countries,(some of whom are hiding thousands) then the figure would be lower. We're going round in circles with this.

We are no different from other countries in what's happening with corvid? Take a look around the world and countries with tough initial lockdown rules are suffering spikes caused by local people weeks after relaxation of rules because it was deemed safe to do so? Germans protesting about lockdown rules in large numbers ! Why would they do that when they know what happening in places like Australia and parts of Europe? Its called being human and as such subject to erratic and illogical decision making. :old:

Eat out to help out - how the UK scheme works

From Monday, diners will be able to get money off meals in cafes, pubs and restaurants on certain days in August.

It's hoped the ''eat out to help out'' scheme will provide a boost to the struggling hospitality industry.

The promotion gives people a discount of up to 50% when eating or drinking soft drinks in a participating restaurant or other food establishment.

It is valid all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3 to 31 August, in all parts of the UK that are not in a local lockdown.

The maximum discount available is £10 per person when you eat or drink in.

Food and drink will appear on the menu at full price, and the restaurant will deduct the money off the bill and claim it back from the government.

CORONAVIRUS
The real Covid-19 death toll in Spain: at least 44,868 victims

EL PAÍS used regional records and reports from three different agencies to arrive at a figure that is much higher than the official one of 28,432.

BY JOSÉ MANUEL ROMERO
Madrid -

3rd August 2020

Covid-19, which is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus first detected in Wuhan, China, in November 2019, has killed at least 44,868 people in Spain since January 13, when the first death from the disease was recorded. That is much higher than the official death toll of 28,432 reported by the Spanish Health Ministry based on cases that were tested and came back positive.
If all the countries were honest and put all the correct data in, they would show a much higher death rate, but many countries are hiding the true figures.
Spain has gone back to January and put all the correct data in and it shows how bad the death rate really was.

Coronavirus in Wales: Pubs and restaurants reopen indoors

People have spoken of their excitement and anxiety about socialising again, as lockdown rules are further relaxed in Wales on Monday.

Groups of up to 30 people can now meet outdoors and many young children will be able to play with their friends for the first time since lockdown began.

Pubs, cafes and restaurants will also be able to serve people indoors.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said he wanted to allow people to enjoy socialising "while they can".

He said new coronavirus restrictions in the north west of England had given him "pause for thought" before announcing changes to daily life in Wales.

Bingo halls and bowling alleys will also reopen on Monday.

While people have been able to enjoy a pint and a meal outside since 13 July, many pubs will open for the first time on Monday since the start of lockdown.

With some not having a beer garden, and less people able to be served due to social distancing measures, many - including major chains like Brains and Wetherspoons - had remained closed.
