Sept 4th - On this thread WE questioned why the Millennium stadium field hospital was being taken down @ £8 - 9M :o
To now build a new one at 4 times the cost and half the capacity :? Some people are making money out of this :x

Well it certainly not making much sense? Understand millennium stadium needs to go back to a stadium! but replace it with something 4× as much sounds stupid considering it appears only to be a temporary facility? Again understand why need such a facility but suspect there is more to come as most original field hospitals are being closed to be replaced with what and what cost?

The number of people dying from coronavirus in England and Wales has plunged to the lowest level since mid-March, before the peak of the pandemic struck.

A total of 78 people died from Covid-19 in the week ending September 4, according to the Office for National Statistics. The dip marks a 23 per cent drop from last week, where 101 deaths have been recorded

It's back and the hospital admissions have trebled in just over a month, due to the time lag the deaths will follow.

This is like the end of Feb, early March, we can ignore it or start making gradual changes now to avoid a massive second wave, people need to start taking things seriously again.

maybe should start by not decommissioning never used field hospitals and stop pulling down never used testing stations ?

Coronavirus: Rhondda Cynon Taff to go into lockdown

A second county in Wales will go into lockdown because of the rate of coronavirus cases.

The 240,000 people living in Rhondda Cynon Taff will have restrictions imposed on their daily lives.

From 18:00 BST on Thursday, people will not be able to enter or leave the area without a reasonable excuse, such as travel for work or education.

All licensed pubs, bars and restaurants will have to shut at 23:00 every day, once the lockdown comes into effect.

Rules allowing people to meet others from their extended households indoors will be suspended in the county.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said there had been a "rapid" rise in cases, with 82.1 infections per 100,000 people over the past seven days.

The latest equivalent figure across the whole of Wales is 21.4 per 100,000.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said a second national lockdown would be "disastrous" for the economy and the government was doing "everything in our power" to avoid another shutdown.

The PM also admitted there was not enough testing capacity and blamed a "colossal spike" in demand for ongoing problems in accessing tests and results being delayed.

With many staff and students unable to distinguish a winter bug from the virus, schools reopening has been a big factor in the rise in demand. One teacher told us he spent 11 hours trying to book a test for his young son: "It's like booking Harry Potter tickets," he said.

A second county in Wales - Rhondda Cynon Taf - will go into lockdown from 18:00 BST on Thursday because of a spike in coronavirus cases.

Its a bit of a nonsense to compare single issue / incident rates with overall population levels, they'll always be tiny. On that basis another 400,000 could die of covid tomorrow but would that be OK because 99.95% have still survived. Were the 9/11 attacks on America any less significant because 99.999% of Americans survived. 98% of western Europe survived the Nazi's but we don't let that influence how history will judge them.

truth is its not 400k ... and not a one off event like 9/11.. and what do you measure it against because just chucking a seemingly big figure out there with out perspective { which is whats happened } is wrong.. im far more likely to get a heart attack and die, far more likely to get cancer and die . and now more likely to get either of those and die because of none diagnosis or non treatments than i am from covid.... not sure what the game is tbh... there are people not painting the full picture....people quite prepared to go along...and worse people exaggerating and scaremongering....
why are some so keen to jump on anything positive which those percentages are... yet leave tons of negative half truths fly past without question ?

Lord Ellis Thomas deputy for art media and sports paints a pessimistic view on venues having customers/fans in any time soon.. he basically told people behave yourselves and do as your told or we wont let you in to live events! He goes on to say he expects it to take years before live spectator events gets back to normal ? We are fcked :?

That was a mistype it was supposed to say another 40k on top of the 40k we've "officially" had to date. Set against the population as a whole they're tiny percentages but then so are most things. We'll never know how many would have succumbed should had we not shut down in March and the disease been allowed to run its course. To some extent its bit irrelevant, we need to recognise the full extent and learn to live with it. That doesn't mean we dont fight like hell to control it and limit the consequences. As for what's going on, well I see a government desperately trying to avoid another lockdown and the disastrous consequence for the economy and our health beyond covid.

Coronavirus: Swansea's Olchfa school sends home 455 pupils

Hundreds of children at one of Wales' biggest schools have been sent home to self-isolate after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

Olchfa Comprehensive School has sent letters to parents of those affected advising them of what they have to do.

A total of 455 sixth formers must stay at home for two weeks. No staff are self-isolating.

Head teacher Hugh Davies has told parents of other pupils at the Swansea school that they may still attend.

Swansea Council said the rest of the school was running normally and the authority was working with Public Health Wales and NHS Wales' Test Trace and Protect service to ensure appropriate measures were in place to protect students, staff and the wider community.

The letter to parents of children who were not close contacts of the child with the positive test also advised them to continue to keep an eye on their children as a precaution.

It said parents should be alert to any symptoms of Covid-19 and should self isolate if they develop symptoms.

It is believed that more than 50 schools across Wales have reported Covid-19 incidents to date.

W.H.O say the levels of infections in Europe are higher than at its peak in march? But funny enough doesn't give indication of deaths even though must have the details this seems to be the theme with authorities extenuating the negatives not positives....

WHO, health bodies, NHS, professors, Doctors, et al. They're all having the time of their lives leading our Government [and most others] around on a proverbial lead.

There is a huge body of opinion amongst top scientists and epidemiologists that runs completely counter to what we've been told and what we've experienced and how Govts have reacted these past 7 months. Trouble is, those views are being kept in the margins, not aired on mainstream media, and when they do get a sniff of publicity are shouted down..

What's happening now will happen again once restrictions are lifted again! Then what do same again and again until covid is non existent? At some point someone as to have the balls to say we need to come out of restrictions and manage virus as it happens ..... otherwise we may as well all stay at home vegitating! A vaccine is not a formality in next 6months or more and maybe never.

Right at the beginning of this crisis in the UK. There was talk of going for herd immunity. Numbers of deaths ranged up to 500,000. No politician in his or her right mind would ever countenance that sort of death rate. So now we are months into the pandemic with no sign of a let-up and no likely vaccine for many months. Every shade of political opinion in the UK and elsewhere has pretty much all favoured lockdowns or social distancing measures. Are they all wrong? Are all the Chief Scientific Advisers and Chief Medical Officers wrong? Should we cast their advice aside and instead follow the words of Van Morrison?

At seventy years of age I would prefer that my remaining years were spent enjoying travelling, going to the pub and restaurants with my family. I also like the odd cruise to the Med. But if its that or see friends, family and others catch this disease and die......then I know which to me is preferable.

I'm presuming you don't put your life on hold every winter because of the threat of getting 'flu, or cancer, or a heart attack - because you are more likely to die of any of those than you are Coronavirus. That's not opinion, that's pure statistical facts..
