Big increase in those testing positive which is less good news going forward. Was hoping we would see it level off and the lockdown really start to take effect.

It was announced that another 12 people in Wales have died after testing positive for coronavirus, taking the total number to 166. There have been 355 confirmed new cases bringing the total in Wales to 3,197. The true number of cases is likely to be higher.

The Queen will stress the value of self-discipline and resolve during the coronavirus pandemic in a special address this evening. In a rare speech, she will acknowledge the grief, pain and financial difficulties Britons are facing during this "time of disruption".

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said the Welsh NHS is "as well prepared" as it can be to deal with the expected surge in coronavirus cases.

He also said the Welsh Government was prepared to introduce tougher measures if people did not stay at home. It would "rather not" ban exercise outside the home, but it would be "a possibility" if more measures were needed.

The number testing positive will rise, but the numbers recovering should also, but that takes longer to come through.

The Queen's address: 'We will succeed'

The challenge of fighting coronavirus is different from other difficulties faced before, says the Queen - because there is a common goal.

“This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal," she says.

"We will succeed - and that success will belong to every one of us.”

More on UK PM's hospital tests

The Downing Street spokesperson goes on to say: "[Mr Johnson] thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the Government's advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”

The prime minister has had coronavirus for 10 days and continues to have persistent symptoms, including a high temperature.

For purely precautionary reasons, he has gone to hospital for tests.

It was considered sensible for doctors to see Mr Johnson in person given he has ongoing symptoms, the spokesperson says. He remains in charge of the UK government, and is in contact with ministerial colleagues and officials.

The news comes a day after Mr Johnson's pregnant fiancée Carrie Symonds announced that she had experienced coronavirus symptoms.

Scotland's chief medical officer resigns

Scotland's chief medical officer, Dr Catherine Calderwood, has resigned after it emerged she had failed to adhere to her own social distancing guidelines by visiting her second home.

Earlier on Saturday, police issued a warning to Dr Calderwood over the incident, while Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the chief medical officer had "made a mistake", but that she needed her to remain in her position.

The high-profile medic has been among those urging the public to stay at home to save lives and to protect the NHS.

UK culture secretary wants 'urgent' agreement between football authorities

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has called for football authorities to reach an agreement on financial support during the coronavirus crisis "urgently", adding the public will take a "very dim view" of clubs furloughing low-paid workers.

Some Premier League clubs, including leaders Liverpool, are facing criticism for furloughing non-playing staff.

Players have been urged to do more by Health Secretary Matt Hancock and the Premier League proposed a 30% pay cut.

But the Professional Footballers Association says that may harm the NHS while former England captain Wayne Rooney has called the power struggle a "disgrace" and says players are being treated like "scapegoats".

Speaking to the Telegraph, Mr Dowden said "clubs, players and owners should be thinking very carefully about their next steps".

"Leaving the public purse to pick up the cost of furloughing low paid workers, whilst players earn millions and billionaire owners go untouched is something I know the public will rightly take a very dim view of," Mr Dowden said.

"At a time of national crisis, our national sport must play its part.

"I expect to see the football authorities judge the mood of the country and come together with an agreement urgently."

First Minister Mark Drakeford has outlined the latest picture on coronavirus in Wales, during the latest daily update from the Welsh Government.

He told the briefing:

Restrictions are beginning to affect the rates of infections - but "things will get worse before they get better"

He has called for all four parts of the UK to come together to review rules on tackling the virus in the coming weeks

The first minister said he believed the lockdown will need to continue after Easter: "A further period of restraint will be necessary"

A new law on social distancing is expected to be introduced on Tuesday - but it will not be an "absolute ban" on workers being within two metres of each other

Some issues still remained with people visiting second or holiday homes in north and west Wales over the weekend

Chief constables have told the Welsh Government they have sufficient powers at the moment to enforce restrictions

The First Minister sent his best wishes to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is currently being treated in hospital for coronavirus, wishing him a "a speedy recovery"

More detail about where the virus cases are

More detail on the coronavirus pandemic has been published from Public Health Wales.

It gives more of an insight into how coronavirus is progressing - and, for the first time, how it breaks down by council area.

We've known about the hotspot in the Aneurin Bevan health board area of south east Wales. When this is drilled down further, it shows Newport has more positive cases proportionately by far than any other area of Wales.

To date, it has more than 277 cases per 100,000 of its resident population. In total cases, this is 425 so far.

The Newport rate is far higher than the proportion anywhere else - including Cardiff, which is second out of 22 local authority areas on 187.8 cases per 100,000.

Apart from Swansea, all the top 10 are in south east Wales.

The lowest proportion in Wales is in Conwy county, with 19.6 cases per 100,000.

When you look at the age profile of cases across Wales, 23% were people aged between 20 and 40. Nearly 37% are between 40 and 60.
