Covid: Party held in Cardiff Bay despite restrictions -

Huge crowds have again gathered in Cardiff Bay, despite coronavirus restrictions still being in place.

Hundreds of people were seen partying close together on the steps outside the Senedd on Friday evening.

It follows similar scenes outside the same building earlier in the week, when three police officers were injured and litter was dumped on the waterfront.

Cardiff council leader Huw Thomas said people who took part should be "deeply ashamed of themselves".

Covid rules state only six people from two different households can meet outdoors.

On videos posted on Twitter, people could be seen singing and drinking from later afternoon and well into the evening.

Covid passport trials begin with live comedy night -

A comedy night in Liverpool will be the first event to pilot the government's Covid passport scheme later this month.

Ministers hope the passes will allow the safe return of sports matches, conferences and night clubs in England.

They will include whether a person has been vaccinated, any recent negative test, or natural immunity determined by a recent positive test.

Downing Street also confirmed countries will be in a risk-based "traffic light" system when foreign holidays resumes.

Trials of the Covid passports will begin on 16 April with a show from the Hot Water Comedy Club in Liverpool and will continue through to mid-May.

Other pilot events include the FA Cup semi final and final, the World Snooker Championship, an evening at a nightclub, a mass participation run, a business conference and a cinema screening.

Covid: Passports showing vaccine status would be time-limited, says minister -

Any "Covid passport" scheme to prove people in England are safe to attend mass-audience events would be "time-limited", the government said.

A "Covid status certification" scheme is being developed to enable concerts and sporting matches to take place.

It would record whether people had been vaccinated, recently tested negative or had natural immunity, having already had a bout of coronavirus.

The government is also trialling other ways of holding mass events safely.

Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston said the trials would be a "learning experience" and no decisions had been made about processes or vaccine certification.

Improved ventilation and testing before and after events are among the other approaches being tested for mass gatherings and indoor events, including sports matches and nightclubs.

Mr Huddleston said the PM would receive a report on all the trial events at the end of May.

England's lockdown to ease as planned on 12 April -

Pubs and restaurants serving outside can reopen as planned next Monday, along with non-essential shops, gyms and hairdressers, as England's lockdown is further eased, the PM has said.

Covid: 'All over-50s in Wales offered vaccine by target date' -

All over-50s and at-risk adults with underlying health conditions have been offered a Covid-19 vaccine in Wales, according to the Welsh government.

The government said it had hit its target after First Minister Mark Drakeford said everyone in the top nine priority groups would be offered a first jab by Sunday.

All four UK governments had promised to reach the milestone by mid-April.

Covid: Child jabs halted in trial as adult clot link probed

A trial of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine on children has stopped giving out jabs while the UK's medicines regulator investigates a possible link with rare blood clots in adults.

Prof Andrew Pollard from the University of Oxford told the BBC there were no safety concerns with the trial itself, but its scientists were waiting for further information.

Around 300 volunteers signed up.

Earlier, PM Boris Johnson said people should get their jab when invited.

More than 31.6 million people in the UK have had a first vaccine dose and a total of 5.4 million people have received a second dose.

Probably nothing to worry about......it's only a small minority who are getting the unusual blood clots so you will hopefully be OK.

It's difficult to make a balanced judgement on a vaccine that has no history..........I guess time will tell. :bluebird:

Today's 'blood clot' announcement does cause food for thought. However, I would like to think that the number of lives saved by having this vaccine will by far outweigh the people who may suffer blood clots of whom a few may lose their lives. Therefore, as things stand, I will have no hesitation in taking the second jab, when offered.
I hope most people follow my line of thought and let's get back some normality!

I'm sure the overwhelming majority will be fine with the vaccine, and hopefully no other side effects.

I'm not sure though how you equate your line of thought, most taking the vaccine, and then getting back to some sort of normality. This will not happen while the people just acquiesse to Government mantra and fear.

The acceptable level of death with vaccines is a lot less than it has been for a year

Who is talking about acceptable levels of death? Surely the idea of a vaccine is to reduce the level of death! Is this not the aim?

Please explain to me your alternative?
To do away with vaccines and hope it all goes away?
I think the last wave of infections and deaths through the winter has proved that's a non-starter.
Try listening to the medical experts if not the government.

Covid in Wales: Gyms and household mixing changes brought forward -

Gyms will be allowed to reopen and people will be able to form extended households a week earlier than planned in Wales, the first minister has said.

Gyms and leisure centres will be able to open from 3 May - instead of 10 May - while two households can bubble up to meet indoors from the same date.

Wedding receptions outdoors for up to 30 people will be allowed from 26 April, also moving forward a week.

A drop in Covid cases has prompted the changes, the Welsh government said.

The dates for reopening the hospitality industry have not changed - pubs, cafes and restaurants will still be able to reopen outdoors from 26 April.

Covid-19: People can start thinking about foreign travel - Shapps

People in England can start thinking about booking foreign holidays again this summer, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has said.

But he said the cost of the Covid tests required needed to be driven down, amid criticism from the travel industry.

Mr Shapps has also given more detail on the traffic light system which will see countries graded on their risk.

Passengers will have to take the tests before leaving and on returning - even from low-risk "green" countries.

There will also be a watch list for countries most at risk of going from green to amber to provide greater assurance for those looking to travel abroad.

Announcing the findings of the Global Travel Taskforce set up by the government to examine how leisure travel could be reopened safely after lockdown, Mr Shapps said foreign holidays would resume on 17 May at the earliest.

Covid: Bridgend's turnaround from virus hotspot to lowest case rate -

A county that was one of the hardest-hit regions in the UK during the second wave of the pandemic now has the lowest case and positivity rates in Wales.

Public Health Wales data shows 4.1 people per 100,000 of the population in Bridgend have tested positive for the virus in the past seven days.

At its peak over the Christmas period that figure was 1,118.7.

In December Bridgend had the second-highest case rate of Covid in Wales, behind only Merthyr Tydfil.

In the week leading up to 20 December - when Wales imposed strict lockdown measures - both areas had case rates almost double the Wales average.

Case rates have been falling substantially in Wales since January.

Covid: Wales' shops reopen after long lockdown -

Wales' high streets will reopen on Monday, with traders desperate to make up for losses suffered in a long lockdown.

Many shop shutters are going up for the first time since December.

From Monday, the rules allow the reopening of all non-essential retail, close-contact services and travel to other parts of the UK.

All pupils are returning for face-to-face learning, and all post-16 learners will return to sixth form and college.

University campuses in Wales will reopen for students to return for some face-to-face lectures and seminars, with some lessons continuing online.

Driving lessons also resume from Monday.

Covid vaccine: All over-50s and high risk groups offered first dose -

All over-50s and those in high-risk groups in the UK have now been offered a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, the government has announced.

It means ministers have met their target of offering a first dose to the top nine priority groups by 15 April.

The government said it was on track to offer a first dose to all adults by the end of July, with those in their late 40s expected to be next in England.

More than 32 million people in the UK have had their first dose.

And on Saturday a record 475,230 second doses were given out, with more than 7.6 million people now fully vaccinated.

Under-50s in Northern Ireland have already been asked to book appointments, and more people in the age group in other parts of the UK are now set to get their invitations.
