Covid-19: Vaccination rollout begins for over-70s in England -

People in England aged 70 and over, as well as those listed as clinically extremely vulnerable, will begin receiving offers of a coronavirus vaccine this week.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the move was a "significant milestone" in the nation's vaccination programme.

It comes as 10 new mass vaccination hubs open across England.

Also from Monday, the UK is closing its travel corridors to protect against "as yet unidentified new strains" of Covid.

The expansion of the vaccination programme to the third and fourth priority groups comes after the number of people to receive a first dose rose to 3.8 million across the UK - more than have tested positive (3.4 million) since the pandemic began.

More than four million people in the UK have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine, according to government figures

The Commons has backed a non-binding Labour motion calling for the £20 increase in Universal Credit to be continued beyond March.

The vote was non-binding because the government - which dismissed the vote as a stunt - ordered its MPs to abstain.

Covid: Politicians drank at Senedd despite alcohol ban -

A group of politicians drank alcohol on Welsh Parliament premises, days after a ban on serving it in pubs took effect.

Conservative Senedd leader Paul Davies, Darren Millar and Nick Ramsay were seen drinking together in early December.

Senedd authorities said they were investigating an "incident" which "may have been contrary to public health regulations".

Labour Member of the Senedd Alun Davies was also involved. He and two Tories deny breaking rules.

"A member has been suspended from the privileges of Senedd Labour Group membership while an investigation takes place into this alleged incident," a spokesman for the group said.

A ban on the sale, supply and consumption of alcohol in licensed premises came into force in Wales at 18:00 GMT on 4 December, although hospitality businesses can sell alcohol to take away after 18:00.

On 8 December, a group of Members of the Senedd and staff drank alcohol in the Ty Hywel building in Cardiff Bay that houses the Senedd's offices.

Catering company, Charlton House, has the licence for serving alcohol on Senedd premises.

The Welsh Government confirmed the alcohol ban applies to the person running the licensed premises, rather than customers.

Covid in Wales: No 'significant easing' of rules expected -

No "significant easing" of Wales' Covid restrictions should be expected when the current guidelines are reviewed this month, the health minister said.

Vaughan Gething said it was "good news" that case rates were falling, but warned they still remained high.

He told a Welsh Government briefing the NHS remained "under pressure" with critical care services operating at 150% of capacity.

A further 44 people have died with coronavirus, taking the total to 4,346.

And another 13,800 people had their first vaccine in the past day in Wales, taking the total to 175,816, according to latest figures.

Saga announces all travellers on their cruises from May will have to confirm they have been vaccinated.

Now it starts so anyone not wanting or having the vaccine will find life just that little more difficult.

Hope the NHS follow that up and refuse access to Hospitals and let their families look after them.

Covid: 'Too early' to say if lockdown will end in spring - Boris Johnson -

It is "too early" to say whether England's Covid restrictions will be able to end in the spring, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said.

Once the four priority groups have been vaccinated, by mid-February, "we'll look then at how we're doing," he said.

Nearly two million people in the UK have had their first dose of vaccine in the past week, government figures show.

Scientist Marc Baguelin, who advises the government, has said restaurants and bars should not reopen before May.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has said he "certainly hopes" schools in England can fully reopen before Easter, while Downing Street refused to be drawn on whether this would happen by then.

A further 1,290 people have died within 28 days of a positive Covid test and there have been another 37,892 cases, according to the latest government figures.

Coronavirus: UK variant 'may be more deadly' -

Early evidence suggests the variant of coronavirus that emerged in the UK may be more deadly, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said.

However, there remains huge uncertainty around the numbers - and vaccines are still expected to work.

The data comes from mathematicians comparing death rates in people infected with either the new or the old versions of the virus.

The new more infectious variant has already spread widely across the UK.

Mr Johnson told a Downing Street briefing: "In addition to spreading more quickly, it also now appears that there is some evidence that the new variant - the variant that was first identified in London and the south east - may be associated with a higher degree of mortality.

"It's largely the impact of this new variant that means the NHS is under such intense pressure."

The plot thickens, the case I am going to put forward is factual, and obviously only one case, but it is fact:

By dear old father in law, 82 years of age, caught covid in his nursing home circa mid December. He had a 14 hour heart op about 8 years ago, and has never been the same since. But.....although he struggled with the disease, tired, out of breathe etc. he recovered.

A week ago he had his first jab. Yesterday he was tested positive with covid but as he is asymptomatic, the home thinks it is a false positive.

If the nursing home are spouting false positives for their residents, how real are the figures given by your Government? Just a thought........ :bluebird:

Covid: Gap between Pfizer vaccine doses should be halved, say doctors -

Senior doctors are calling on England's chief medical officer to cut the gap between the first and second doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine.

Prof Chris Whitty said extending the maximum wait from three to 12 weeks was a "public health decision" to get the first jab to more people across the UK.

But the British Medical Association said that was "difficult to justify" and should be changed to six weeks.

It comes as early evidence suggests the UK virus variant may be more deadly.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told a Downing Street briefing on Friday: "In addition to spreading more quickly, it also now appears that there is some evidence that the new variant - the variant that was first identified in London and the south east - may be associated with a higher degree of mortality."

Previous work suggests the new variant spreads between 30% and 70% faster than others, and there are hints it is about 30% more deadly.

For example, the government's chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said if 1,000 men in their 60s were infected with the old variant, roughly 10 of them would be expected to die - but this rises to about 13 with the new variant.

I am actually stunned by the lack of individual research on the miracle vaccines that have been rushed out in 10 months.

If you want to take a vaccine and inject alien bios into your body that is fine in my book. It is an individual choice and obviously you will accept the choice of others if they do not wish to go down that path.

When, not IF, your Government informs you that unfortunately the vaccine "may" not protect you from new variants what do you do?

The narrative has already started to spin..........I just ask you all to seriously question what is really going on here? Don't ask MSM, find somewhere else to give you a more balanced view. Good luck in whatever you decide....... :bluebird:

True, the vaccine is the choice of every individual.
You either take it in hope of some protection against the virus. Alternatively, you don't take it, and have no protection.
You decide!
