The Independant reports
Booster jabs could be rolled out in ‘August or September’, according to a government adviser.

Anthony Harnden, deputy chair of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), said that boosters could help to prevent rising cases in winter if the UK is struck by Covid variants or a drop in immunity.

FA Cup final and World Snooker Championship on list of pilot events to test return of fans -

The FA Cup final - potentially in front of 20,000 fans - and the World Snooker Championship are among the proposed pilot events to test the return of big crowds to venues this year.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) says it will stage "around a dozen" sporting and cultural events this spring.

The FA Cup final takes place at Wembley on 15 May.

The DCMS said the number of spectators at the pilots is yet to be decided.

But BBC Sport understands the possibility of having 20,000 fans at the FA Cup final is being explored by DCMS and the Football Association. The proposals would need to be agreed with Brent Council.

Covid: Wales ministers 'not comfortable' over new supermarket sales rules -

Allowing supermarkets to start selling non-essential items again while other shops remain shut was not something ministers were comfortable with, the deputy economy minister says.

Non-essential aisles in supermarkets will be able to reopen From 22 March.

All other shops cannot open until three weeks later, on 12 April.

But member of the Senedd (MS) Lee Waters, said the move was seen as "the least risky" Covid rules relaxation as supermarkets are already open.

"It was something we wrestled with, it was not something we were comfortable with, if I'm completely honest with you, but it's a pragmatic judgement," he told the BBC Politics Wales programme.

Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid jab safe, insists Hancock -

The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine is safe, the health secretary has said, after some European nations paused its use amid concern over blood clots.

Matt Hancock urged people to "listen to the regulators" and to "get the jab" as soon as they got the opportunity.

Some 13 countries have suspended use of the vaccine while they seek further clarification on its safety.

But the UK's medicines watchdog, the MHRA, has said that evidence "does not suggest" the jab causes clots.

About 17 million people across the EU and the UK have received a dose of the vaccine, with fewer than 40 cases of blood clots reported as of last week, the manufacturer AstraZeneca said.

It said the number of cases of blood clots reported was lower than the hundreds of cases that would be expected among the general population.

Covid: Wales vaccine supplies to be delayed 'up to four weeks' -

Vaccine supplies which were due to arrive in Wales by mid-April will be delivered up to four weeks late, the Welsh government has confirmed.

It comes after NHS England warned of a "significant reduction" in Covid-19 vaccine supplies next month.

But BMA Cymru chairman David Bailey said it "looks like supplies will increase again the following month".

A record number of second doses of a vaccine were given out in Wales on Tuesday, according to latest figures.

The reduction in supply was announced by NHS England in a letter to local health organisations.

It said there had been a "reduction in national inbound vaccines supply" and asks organisations to "ensure no further appointments are uploaded" to booking systems in April.

Evening round-up -

The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is safe, Boris Johnson has said, adding he will be receiving it himself on Friday. The benefits of the vaccine preventing Covid far outweigh any risks, the prime minister said, as he urged people to take up the jab when offered

The PM also insisted there will be no change to the UK's roadmap out of lockdown as a result of vaccine supply delays

There is no evidence the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine causes blood clots, say UK and EU regulators after a "thorough and careful review". The MHRA and the EMA say people can have confidence in the vaccine's benefits and should get immunised, despite some countries pausing use

The outlook for the UK economy remains "unusually uncertain" despite the rapid rollout of the vaccine programme, the Bank of England has said. It said it expected an economic rebound this year, as lockdown measures were eased and government support for jobs continued

Well hope people were not expecting to go away for Easter? Drakeford says wont decide if Wales is open for buisness in time for Easter until 27th March ? easter starts 2nd April!! Even then he says he has not ruled out local lockdown in areas of high covid like anglesey/merthyr...... there is no road map just I might open up things if I feel it's right and covid is at level I'm happy with... great for buisnesses who may spend thousands to open but then get told 4 days before opening sorry you can't? :banghead:

Whether the UK, Wales or Scotland administration, they're all enjoying the unexpected control they've been able to exert over the population with barely a whiff of dissent. I really do think we are heading for times where Government introduces future 'lockdowns' and restrictions in response to winter flu epidemics etc. on a regular basis.

There has been a minority on this forum who have sign posted this for many months. We have been shouted down and even been called the cheapest shot, conspiracy theorists.

Well, I guess we all reap what we sow. I just could never understand how so many were sucked in by so few. I guess 1984 was a prediction that actually happened circa 30 years later.

I will always fight for my God given freedoms as a human being from the day I was spawned, these individual freedoms are intergral to the way I see life. I feel I should be allowed to do what I wish, as long as I am not pissing on somebody elses chips. It's called common law.....the law of this land.

Unfortunately others feel they need to be nannied and told what to do. Good luck to you. :bluebird:

Covid: 'Don't let Grand Slam bid cause surge' says Mark Drakeford -

Rugby fans have been reminded to watch Wales' Grand Slam decider at home to avoid a surge in coronavirus cases.

Wales will claim a fifth Six Nations Grand Slam in 16 years if they beat France in Paris on Saturday evening.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said: "The last thing we want is to mark a potential Grand Slam weekend with a surge in Covid cases."

Police fear it will be a "temptation" for some people to mix but officers have warned of "robust" action.

"Let's not become a sick nation while winning the Six Nations," said Gwent Police Ch Supt Mark Cobra.

Two households can mix outdoors in Wales - including in gardens - but socialising indoors is not allowed.

Wales' final Six Nations clash with Paris in France kicks off at 20:00 GMT on Saturday, just after the south Wales football derby between Swansea City and Cardiff City, which starts at 17:30.

Covid-19: Record day for UK with 711,156 vaccinations given -

Friday was a record day for Covid vaccinations in the UK, with a combined 711,156 first and second doses given to members of the public.

It means that half of all UK adults - some 26,853,407 people - have now received a first dose of a vaccine.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the latest milestone in the rollout marked a "phenomenal achievement".

Prime Minister Boris Johnson - one of those to receive a first dose on Friday - also hailed the landmark.

A total of 2,132,551 people have also received their second dose of a vaccine, government figures show.

Latest from drakeford? Boris is at very top of the optimistic spectrum with road map out of covid restrictions! Drakeford says he wants to be realistic and warned wales unlikely to return to normality in 2021.... he wants to be as honest as he can be rather than painting the most optimistic picture he can? Wales is only home nation without a road map out of covid restrictions. :o

Coronavirus: Third wave will 'wash up on our shores', warns Johnson -

Boris Johnson has warned the effects of a third wave of coronavirus will "wash up on our shores" from Europe.

The PM said the UK should be "under no illusion" we will "feel effects" of growing cases on the continent.

One of his ministers, Lord Bethell, also warned the UK might put "all our European neighbours" on the red list of countries, where arrivals are either banned or put in quarantine hotels.

The comments come amid a row over Covid-19 vaccine supplies in the EU.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen has warned the EU could "forbid" doses made in the bloc from being exported to the UK.

EU leaders will hold a virtual meeting on Thursday to discuss their plans.

Officials confirmed the PM spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday about the ongoing issue, which would affect exports of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine made in Europe.
