'No plans' to reopen pubs in Wales, says Finance Minister

The Welsh Government has no timetable for reopening pubs and restaurants, the Finance Minister has said.

Rebecca Evans said talks between ministers and the hospitality sector were "ongoing", but details for relaxing certain measures could not be given due to uncertainties about the spread of the coronavirus in the coming weeks.

It came as a health think-tank showed Wales had the slowest decline of Covid-19 compared to the rest of the UK's regions, as well as the highest cumulative rate of cases in the middle of June.

Wales is currently the only country in the UK to not have a timetable for the reopening of hospitality businesses, with critics including opposition ministers saying failing to give any indications could lead to closures and redundancies.

Asked when a timetable would be given, Ms Evans told the Welsh Government's daily press briefing on Thursday that detailed timings couldn't be given about certain measures "because it's very difficult to know where the coronavirus will be in the weeks and months ahead".

She added: "I can't give a timetable or a date but I do want to reassure you that work is actively ongoing in partnership with the hospitality sector."

The UK's death toll among those who have tested positive for Covid-19 has risen to 43,514, an increase of 100. Total cases stand at 310,250. In Scotland no new fatalities were reported for the second day running.

Coronavirus tests which could deliver results within fifteen minutes are set to be trialled in care homes and hospitals, according to Oxford University scientists.

Boris Johnson has recommitted his pledge to ensure that any vaccine developed in the UK is "truly available to all" and urged other countries and companies to do the same.

Deaths and cases still dropping but the WG are being an absolute joke now! Own an airport but they insist people self isolate 2wks if come into airport and because they wont allow foreign travel they are telling everyone to stay 5 miles even when that ends soon and not to go on holiday or travel abroad even though it as been deemed ok by other countries.... they expect the airport they own to start to pick up flights in August providing they've lifted the ban..

Coronavirus in Wales: Pubs and restaurants can open outdoors from 13 July

Some pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants in Wales will be able to reopen outdoors from 13 July, under new Welsh Government plans.

Venues will be able to open in spaces they own and have licences for - as long as coronavirus cases continue to fall.

But indoor services will remain closed for now, despite industry pressure.

Wales is the only part of the UK without a restart date for indoor hospitality.

More details on the reopening plans are expected at Thursday's Welsh Government press conference.

Head of brains brewery says can open about two out of 104 pubs they own.. wetherspoons won't open any and so on ! Only ones happy are ones who already have the facilities outside and wont cost a significant amount to open but even then depends on weather.... the reality is pubs will open but Due to restrictions placed on establishments they will invariably close as will lose money after initial buzz... this must be the most obscene stupidest idea to come from WG and theres been many ! Hospitality sector was expected good news but got kicked in the goolies when on floor instead ....

Dont think it's on any agenda at moment no mention of lifting 2wk isolation on return when land in Wales so of course people just go to Bristol fly to Spain and no isolation in England on return so just come home as normal? Now if that isn't WG taking the mick with rhoose ( which they've pumped millions
into) or welsh people dont know what is! Trouble is they are now so far behind rest uk there is getting conflicts of interest like foreign travel.... Ryanair just stuck 2 fingers up at WG as both flights today took off but should be encouraging Ryanair or easy jet to use Cardiff not stop them ? Total fool drakeford is.. :banghead:

Travel restrictions to be lifted on Monday in Wales .

Travel restrictions in Wales will end on Monday, First Minister Mark Drakeford has confirmed.

"Stay local" guidance, asking people to stay within five miles of home, will end, with no limits on travel going forward, and outdoor attractions will able to open.

Two households will also be able to stay together indoors from Monday.

It comes as the number of coronavirus cases continues to fall.

Mr Drakeford called for people to think "carefully about where we go and why".

Yes tony it's true! Tfw said due to stations not being long enough or are to curved to allow both doors on train to open services will not stop there due to social distancing and the priority of staff and passengers are their main concern... but may put replacement bus services instead! Like said been operating without problem for 104 days so why now a problem god knows, why not simply let passengers off before others get on is that to difficult? And Judging by stations involved suspect few passengers get on at moment anyway :banghead:

People complain about boris's handling of pandemic and yes got things wrong at times but he knows you cannot keep lockdown going completely for 6 months which drakeford wants ..... so at some point things need to open up not like the stupid outdoors only rule that is restricted to premises licensed to have street tables ect....but going back to tfw they are doing what lot of companies are doing and that is going ott instead of being rational in what they do... I saw earlier an hotel in Cornwall and they've partitioned of their dining room into boxes with hatches to feed the guests ffs whats point of dining in a box? I have no intention of going anywhere where I cant be normal and watch world go by.. :old:

UK quarantine rules relaxed for sports teams and film crews

There will be quarantine exemptions to allow major sporting events, TV and film productions to go ahead in England this summer, the government has announced

Some sports teams and production crews coming from abroad will be except from the two-week quarantine rule if they are deemed essential to the event or production.

The scheme gives the green light for Formula One, international football, golf and snooker tournaments to return.

Ministers said darts, horse racing and other sports were expected to follow.

At the moment, most travellers to the UK must quarantine for two weeks. However, from 10 July, people arriving in England from dozens of countries deemed "low risk" will also be exempt.

Events held across the UK to celebrate NHS

There have been a variety of celebrations across the UK to mark the nationwide clap for the NHS.

In Cardiff, crowds of emergency workers gathered to applaud, while at St George's Hospital, in south London, staff gathered on the hospital's roof to pay tribute.

A vintage plane flypast over Cambridge, a band playing in Glasgow and a grime dancer in Bristol were among the other events marking the occasion.
