The Premier League has reportedly developed radical plans to play out the rest of the season in isolated "World Cup-style" camps in London and the midlands over the course of June and July in order to finish the rest of the 2019/20 season.

All footballing activity has been placed on hold until April 30 at the earliest, but there's a growing feeling that the current timeframe is overly-optimistic.

According to The Independent, football bosses have been discussing ideas over what steps to take over the course of the weekend, with the option of playing games behind closed doors currently seen as the most likely solution. The idea of playing out games in isolated camps believed to be growing in popularity over the last few days.

Reports suggest that all the remaining 92 games could be televised as part of a "TV mega-event" over the coming summer months.

The idea is also reportedly receiving increased backing from the government, who are understood to be keen on giving fans the chance to enjoy the national sport in the event that lockdown measures are extended or even tightened further.

Under the plan, clubs, players and members of staff would be confined to separate hotels, away from their families and the outside world, much like during an international tournament, with full testing and quarantine conditions.

Games would then be played behind closed doors, most likely at training grounds in London or the Midlands, although exact details are not yet clear.

Efforts to complete the season will offer a huge boost to league leaders Liverpool, who are currently well on course for their first title in 30 years, and their first in the Premier League era.

However, there are some big questions still to be answered, most notably at the bottom of the table.

It's unclear how relegation from the Premier League and promotion from the Championship would work under the proposals, with Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion currently occupying the top two places in the second tier.

Cardiff City and Swansea are also both still in the promotion mix just outside the play-off spots.

Even if bosses can find a way to complete the rest of the top flight season, a solution for concluding the rest of the footballing pyramid may also need to be found.

This latest idea is also fraught with logistical problems, particularly given that all match officials, cameramen and broadcast crews would also need to adhere to isolation measures.

There are also concerns over the moral impact of having medical officials on hand to deal with potential injuries at what is arguably a non-essential event, at a time when the NHS is likely to be facing unprecedented pressure.

I think there could be a big disappointment coming for certain fans this Friday, it's the medical experts and the scientists who will decide this seasons fate.
