‘Amazing’ – Neil Warnock takes another dig at Leeds after claiming fans deserve to be in PL

Saturday 23rd May 2020

Neil Warnock just can’t help himself when it comes to Leeds United.

Talking on Sky Sports News on Saturday (8am), Warnock admitted the Leeds fans deserved to be back in the Premier League.

But he had to get another dig in at his former side, who he hinted could blow up in the final games of the season.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“I hope they get the opportunity to finish the season off, even if it is behind closed doors,” Warnock said.

“For how long… How many years, even when I was at Leeds the fans were amazing and they deserve to be back in the Premier League.

“But the other clubs, they know Leeds have blown up in the last few games before.

“So you wouldn’t write off your Brentfords and Fulhams because of the three points per game. I do hope they finish the last nine games and I don’t really mind how long it takes.”

Warnock tries to put on a positive face when it comes to Leeds fans, but he gets very short shrift from them.

And after his disastrous run at Elland Road and the frequent digs since, it’s not surprising.

We caught him on Quest in March saying that Leeds had an issue with its defence – that was on the back of five straight wins and five clean sheets.

It’s almost as if Warnock wants Leeds to blow up and doesn’t like the fact that Bielsa has almost done what so many managers, himself included, hasn’t managed to do.

There’s absolutely no evidence to suggest that Leeds will blow up if the season does play on.

In fact, Bielsa’s Leeds always start a season like a train and the final nine games are like a mini-season in itself.

His Leeds players have had a rest and have been keeping themselves fit. We expect them to start off where they ended in March – continuing their run of wins towards promotion.
