Statement from the Fred Keenor Statue Fund Committee
We're delighted to announce that the message boards football match raised a fantastic £1,105.70.
This includes £17.20 donated on the day of the match between Mike Morris’ and Annis Abraham’s message boards. Mike’s team were victorious 4-2.
Fund Press Officer Phillip Nifield said: “Our appeal is a true grassroots campaign led by fans so we’re really delighted at the great efforts made by those who organised and took part in the fundraising match on Sunday, August 22nd. Thanks to everyone involved for their hard work. They showed what can be done.
“Their contribution gives a great boost to our efforts to raise the funds needed to create a permanent tribute to Fred Keenor and the rest of the 1927 FA Cup winning team.
“We’d also like to encourage fans to become involved in fundraising. We have supporters running in the Berlin and Toronto marathons to raise money for the appeal but would like more to organise their own events. The more that can help out the quicker the statue will be erected at the Cardiff City Stadium.”
Donations to the appeal fund can be made through the Co-operative Bank:

How much has been raised in total now?

Project manager David Craig is on holiday at present. But will be around £27,000-£28,000. At present we are spending quite a lot of money on buying the FK miniatures and badges but will obviously get our money back and a lot more when we sell them.
