Everton striker Oumar Niasse to leave for NOTHING after arriving for £13.5m, while he netted five times in 33 games on loan with Hull and Cardiff .

Friday 26th June 2020

Oumar Niasse will leave Everton on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30 - four-and-a-half years after becoming the club's third most expensive player.

The striker managed just 43 first-team appearances during a largely troubled spell at Goodison Park and was previously shipped out on loan to Hull and Cardiff.

Everton officials have tried and failed to get rid of Niasse permanently during recent transfer windows, but he will finally depart at the end of this month.

Oumar Niasse, pictured celebrating in September 2017, will leave Everton for free on June 30

The Senegal forward was signed by Roberto Martinez for £13.5million from Lokomotiv Moscow in January 2016, but his career on Merseyside never got going.

Niasse was not given a locker by Martinez's successor, Ronald Koeman, at the start of the 2016-17 season and found himself frozen out of the squad for long periods.

He did enjoy a brief renaissance under the Dutchman towards the start of the 2017-18 season, but failed to nail down a starting spot under Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva and Carlo Ancelotti.

Niasse, who became the third most expensive player in Everton's history behind Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini when he joined, has only made three appearances this season.

He will leave Goodison with nine goals and three assists to his name, while he netted five times in 33 games on loan with Hull and Cardiff.

Everton declined the option to extend Niasse's deal until the end of the delayed season, while defender Cuco Martina and Luke Garbutt will also leave on June 30.

Meanwhile, defender Leighton Baines has agreed a short-term contract extension as he mulls over a one-year deal.

The 35-year-old former England full-back, who has more than 400 appearances for the club to his name, has agreed to stay until the end of the current season.

However, the Toffees are keen to retain Baines' services on a longer-term basis and have offered him another 12 months at Goodison Park.

A statement on the club's official Twitter account said: 'Leighton Baines has agreed a short-term deal until the end of this season, while he has also been offered a one-year contract for the 2020-21 campaign.'

France international Djibril Sidibe has extended his loan from Monaco to cover the remainder of the campaign.

Those five goals on loan must have all been at Hull because he couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo when he was here.

Never forget that miss when clean through against Man City last season - pathetic.

Laughing at the first sentence, not the pathetic misses he made. But for the opposition they must have been funny

Mate to be honest we had to laugh even at that miss against City - clean through and he never looked like scoring. Got the ball stuck under his feet, could have passed to Mendez I think it was for a tap in but just ran it straight at the keeper.

If you didn't laugh you'd cry.

Who could forget that miss he must have been thinking about his first goal and celebration when it hit the corner flag.

Held the ball up well though. Some of our best performances last year were with him up front.

Needed a goal for confidence for sure.

In fairness the championship is probably his level and he would likely do very well playing in it.

The premier league defenders are a little bit too quick and clever for him, he won't have that problem in this league

Hardworking but never a Premier League player.

We would be challenging the top two with him up front, far better than anything we have. But, he was on premier league wages and no way a premier league player. Championship is his level in a team that demand hard work over just sheer finishing.

He was a hard working player, ran the channels well but no end product, would probably be OK in the Championship but we will be in Premier League next season :bluescarf:

im not so sure.. his downfall wasn't so much up against superior defenders it was not picking his head up and lack of awareness of where our players were .. and we do seem to be scoring ok playing as we do ? ... more than Forest and Fulham and 2 less than Leeds { we had actually scored more than Leeds prior to their first goal this afternoon }
