A leader is emerging

A couple of weeks ago, just after the Leeds United game, a video went viral among the Cardiff City fans on Twitter of Will Vaulks telling his team-mates to "look after each other out there" as the Bluebirds trotted out of the tunnel.

It's the sort of striking video which sticks with you and is testament to the player's character.

The one thing you can say about playing football behind closed doors is that you can hear the conversations being had out on the pitch and the Wales international is arguably the most vocal of the lot.

Marlon Pack was brought in by Neil Warnock because the former Bluebirds boss believed his side was lacking in leaders and ex-Robins man had that in abundance.

But with Pack having a slightly diminished role, it is Vaulks who has taken that mantle and run with it.

You look at City's outfield players and you see the likes of Morrison and Nelson as leaders, vocal players who speak constantly, but then, further forward, there are far fewer.

Joe Ralls and Callum Paterson aren't shy of a word, either, but Vaulks' bellowing voice rings out at Cardiff City Stadium above most others.

He has blossomed in that role and taking that leadership role on is no doubt linked with his increasing importance within the squad.

His goal against Rovers, a stunning lob on the half-volley over Christian Walton, showed he had the quality in attack, while his defensive output is unquestioned.

Many have sung his plaudits as a player since the turn of the year, but it is his leadership traits which pique my interest most.

Still just 26, and having already captained Rotherham, there could be a future Bluebirds skipper in there some day.
