Any more new signings at Cardiff City ?

It will be hugely surprising if we do not see Neil Harris add to his squad further over the coming weeks.

It is thought that City will only add more to their squad now should there be some departures before the end of the window, but there are still key areas Cardiff are looking to address.

First and foremost, Cardiff want to add a playmaker if there is scope in the budget to do so.

The problem with those sorts of players, though, is that they cost money and Cardiff are trying to work closely to a streamlined budget amid the impact of coronavirus and there no telling when fans are allowed back into stadia again.

So it is understandable, then, that Cardiff want to free up some room on the wage bill before adding in top-end positions like a playmaker.

But, as the point has been widely made, Lee Tomlin cannot sustain his fitness and level of performance in what will be an utter slog of a jam-packed Championship season.

Tomlin has a chronic hip issue, which flared up on a number of occasions last term, and it seems a bit of a gamble to lumber all the creative responsibility on him this season.

Yes, there are now four or five contenders to start on the wing, but there is a difference between a very good winger and someone who can unlock defences in key areas of the pitch, as Player of the Season Tomlin showed last term.

Another tricky playmaker with guile and poise, even if it is another young Premier League loan, could really be the difference in unleashing City's dangerous wide men and two real attacking threats, Moore and Robert Glatzel, consistently all season.

What a shame it would be to have all these exciting, attacking players at your disposal but not the right personnel available to use them to their maximum potential, as Tomlin so often does.

By the same token, it is also a big gamble to trust Jordi Osei-Tutu, an unproven defender at this level, with the sole job of holding down that right-back spot all season.

Cardiff brought in Dion Sanderson back in March and, despite a rip-roaring start, once his form dipped a little they were bereft of options and had to slot Leandro Bacuna in there for the end-of-season run-in.

Bacuna had been excellent in the middle of the park all season and taking him out of midfield really affected Cardiff's drive and solidity there.

So, that can't be allowed to happen again. City need two recognised right backs to battle it out for that spot this season, which Joe Bennett and Greg Cunningham will likely do on the left, to ensure there are no holes in this Bluebirds squad.

Again, whether that is free agent or a loan, a back-up right back is a must, if the wages are freed through exits.

City have been in contact with Dion Sanderson and a move for him is still on the table, however a number of suitors are also interested and if the Wolves youngster believes he will be behind Osei-Tutu in the pecking order, he will likely go elsewhere.

Those are the two positions, though, that Cardiff should, and would like to, bolster in the remaining time left in the window.
