Out the exit door / Who is leaving Cardiff City?

We know Cardiff City want to ship out a goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window, likely to be Neil Etheridge.

One of Alex Smithies, Neil Etheridge and Joe Day must leave in order to redress the balance between the sticks.

Day is a natural No.2 at Cardiff, while both Smithies and Etheridge are on decent wages with the Bluebirds and one of them, most recently the latter, is sitting on the bench watching on.

With Smithies the out-and-out No.1 at present, and rightly so, too, given his terrific displays between the sticks last term, it means Etheridge is the most likely to seek pastures new.

The Philippines international, who has been excellent since signing on a free back in 2017, has 10 months left to run on his contract and is the one Cardiff are likely to make an ample profit from.

When asked about whether Etheridge had given Harris any indication over whether he wants to leave or stay, Harris added: "Where he has been really honest is that he’s got 10 months left of his contract and he's had transfer windows where he has been linked with moves away and it hasn't quite happened

"He has found himself out the team in the three months before the start of this season and he wants to play football.

"It’s not he’s demanding a transfer, but the reality of having three senior goalkeepers, we need to make that into two.

"If someone has got a value in one transfer window which might disappear in the future, then you have to look at it from a business perspective as well.

"We will just all have to see what unfolds in the coming weeks."

Birmingham City are one of a number of clubs who are interested in signing the player this summer.

The centre-backs are a tricky one.

Both Sol Bamba and Aden Flint spent much of last season, certainly the back end of it, watching on from the sideline.

Their only crime, too, was that Sean Morrison and Curtis Nelson saw their relationship blossom on the pitch to form a solid centre-back partnership.

It is understood the club are happy with both Bamba and Flint and would want them to stay, however both of them doubtless want more first-team action, given their experience and pedigree at this level.

They are both excellent trainers and leaders within the group and that certainly adds value, even if it can't be seen on match days.

Bamba is said to be wanted by Neil Warnock up at Middlesbrough, however the Bluebirds hierarchy hold the Ivorian in incredibly high regard and understand the importance of his relationship with the supporters. He also has a coaching role lined up for when he hangs up his boots, so that must be taken into consideration.

Flint could be one who actively seeks football elsewhere.

The towering centre-back started well under Warnock; he is excellent in the air and carried a real goal threat at the start of the season. But some believed he was just too similar to Morrison and if it became a straight shootout between the two, the skipper would always win when it came to selection.

Flint was bought for £4million last summer, too, so he looks a costly luxury to have on the bench and it may be best for all parties if he finds a club who needs a first-choice centre-back to slot straight in.

Bamba, too, was selected ahead of Flint for the final pre-season friendly and for the Carabao Cup defeat at Northampton, so that is an indicator as to where the defender sits in the pecking order.

No clubs have sounded the Bluebirds out over a potential move for Flint yet, WalesOnline has been told.

Isaac Vassell is a player who City are keen to get back on the pitch, but he will only be able to seek a loan move away when he is fit enough to do so.

The striker suffered a crushing setback when he pulled up lame during an under-23s match at Leckwith back in March and has not recovered enough to take part in full training since.

Since he sustained his initial quad problem back in September last year, he has partaken in just 10 days of first-team training.

Given there is a domestic transfer window extension to October 16, City are hoping he will be fit enough to secure a loan move away before then. That time-frame looks unlikely, though.

If he is still unfit, they would like him to go out in January; League One, League Two and Scotland are all options.

Junior Hoilett has been linked with a move to Boro, too, given his connections with Warnock. However, it is thought City value the winger too highly to allow him to leave this summer.

Academy prospect Aaron Bolger has already sealed a loan move back to his hometown club, Shamrock Rovers, while Ciaron Brown has returned to Livingston on loan, too.

The likes of Joel Bagan, Mark Harris and Tom Sang are all among the players who have impressed the City coaching staff, however a decision will be taken over the coming weeks as to whether their development will be bettered by seeking loan moves away this term.

It is also understood James Waite, who did tremendously on loan at Weston-super-Mare last year, is seeking a loan switch to a League One or League Two club to gain more experience at a higher level of senior football in order to force his way into the first-team reckoning at Cardiff.

More lazy journalism again. Which players could leave Cardiff City City? Answer , well any of them. Vassell is injured, nobody is going to pay us most of the £4m Warnock outlaid on Flynn. We wouldn't get much of a fee for Hoilett so may as well keep him until his contract runs out next year. And can't see anyone except a 4th tier club taking Bamba, It seems to be story they trot out every other week.

Was there a mention of Gavin Whyte? What I did think was funny was the comment that Day is a capable number 2 goalkeeper. Not on what we have seen. If you want someone cheap to sit on the bench then fine, but just hope he doesn't have to play a game. If we have real ambition to go up we need a decent squad and keeping Flint and Etheridge is vital, unless we can replace them with players as good but on lower wages. Day to go out on loan I reckon. But maybe Hoilett or Whyte will go now we have signed Ojo?
