If teams started refusing too play

Wed Oct 28, 2020 5:48 pm

If a few teams in the top divisions started threatening to boycott games would the government have to consider letting fans back ?

The prospect of loads of levels headaches for big companies and all the science that’s going around regarding covid I think the government would have to at least look at it

Would there be penalties for clubs involved in this ?

Think abou it! Clubs get 100m+ from sky plus god knows how much from sponsorship why would they boycott premier league? Besides will get relegated for not fulfilling a fixture.. :o

The standard rules for forfeiting a game means the club forfeiting is given a 3-0 loss. So unless all 20 clubs agreed on it then the clubs forfeiting would just end up giving away free wins to their rivals.

The matchday revenue teams would gain from 20% capacities is also significantly lower than the current money they get for playing behind closed doors so they would be hurting themselves financially by refusing to play as you would imagine they would also be forfeiting any matchday revenue.

Now you put it like that, would be hell of an ask for all the clubs to stand together on it

refusing to play = breach of contract = no TV money = no business = relegation = end of club

Most players are approx - 18-35 , all extremely fit compared to general public. Their chances of becoming seriously ill and death is extremely extremely low

There was a thread here some months back with a poll asking how many would attend if we were allowed to.

Be interesting to run that again now and see if it's changed now?

They are closing down events down not opening up, no chance of football fans attending for a long time, probably not until the vaccine.
