I believe the 18 yr olds could still play for our under 18s

Under harris we have moved on all the older lads that were not going to make it
He has brought in new coaches/ managers for the academy
Our under 18s have 16/ 17 yr olds playing for us
We had harris. sang . Patten .evans.
On the bench verses norwich
We have to give the academy time it was neglected under warnock
But is getting there .
Wether we win lose or draw today the result is not as important
As the performance and expierence gained by our youngsters

To be fair Swansea's side today looks to be even younger. There's a few 17 year olds in their lineup

Is that fact or is it just they look young
They beat us 5 1 earlier in the season ?

No idea about earlier in the season, I just googled their line up today to see what we're up against. 3 17 year olds in starting lineup and 1 16 year old came on after HT

Good to get a win today though!

Begs question why the need to put in three 17yr olds and a sub 16 Thought they had good set up from 1st team to under 16s! So why play such youngsters especially against us of all teams.

A very young Swansea side lose to our local rivals Cardiff.

Swansea City Under-23s were beaten by Cardiff City in their Professional Development League South encounter in Leckwith.

The young Swans made the perfect start at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium; taking a seventh-minute lead through Bradley Gibbings’ first goal for the development side.

However, they struggled to pose a genuine attacking threat thereon, and were undone by two set-pieces in quick succession during the second half with Taylor Jones and Jack Bodenham turning the contest on its head.

And the Swans’ misery was compounded with four minutes remaining, when Scott Butler was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Jon Grey named an unchanged team from last week’s hard-earned 0-0 draw with league leaders Millwall, and saw his side make the best possible start.

Just seven minutes were on the clock when a well-worked short corner was poked home by Gibbings from close range.

Cardiff responded well and the young Swans had Jamie Searle to thank, as the goalkeeper made smart saves to keep out Rubin Colwill and Sam Bowen.

The visitors, who lost Joe Lewis to injury before the break, also went close at the other end.

Adrian Akande shot just over following a good run and cross by Morgan Clarke, while Rio Campbell saw a fierce low drive turned behind.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure in the second half. A quickfire break saw Owen Pritchard release Isaak Davies through on goal, only for the striker to blaze over when one on one with Searle.

The Swansea keeper then produced a magnificent double-save; keeping out Davies from close range after parrying Colwill’s initial effort.

But there was nothing he could do as Cardiff finally made their pressure tell by equalising in the 68th minute. A free-kick into the box broke kindly for Jones, who fired home.

And the turnaround was completed just six minutes later from another set-piece – albeit a harsh one awarded against Butler, who received what subsequently proved to be a costly yellow card.

The hosts took full advantage with skipper Bodenham heading in from Evans’ delivery.

Unable to respond, Swansea were reduced to 10 men with four minutes to play as Butler was shown a second yellow card for a rash challenge.

Cardiff U23s: George Ratcliffe, Taylor Jones, Tom Davies (Cameron McWilliams, 68), Sam Bowen, Oli Denham, Jack Bodenham (capt), Rubin Colwill, Owen Pritchard, Isaak Davies, Roland Idowu (Chanka Zimba, ht), Kieron Evans.

Subs not used: Bradley Stewart, Tom Chiabi.

Swans U23s: Jamie Searle; Morgan Clarke, Scott Butler, Jake Thomas, Joe Lewis (Cameron Congreve, 39), Matthew Blake (capt); Erick Kenko, Ryan Bevan, Adrian Akande; Bradley Gibbings, Rio Campbell (Michael Murphy, 77).

Subs not used: Tyler Evans, Ryan Bassett, Aaron Hillier.

U23 Match Report | Cardiff City 2-1 Swansea City :bluebird: :bluebird:

CARDIFF CITY FC

Tuesday 19th January 2021

A superb second half showing earned Cardiff City’s U23 team a deserved 2-1 victory over Swansea City.

Coach Steve Morison made two changes to his starting line-up from City’s previous fixture against Charlton Athletic. Kieron Evans returned to U23 action, having been named amongst the substitutes by Neil Harris for Saturday’s Championship clash with Norwich City, whilst young left-back Tom Davies also came into the side.

After a lively start, it was the visitors who made the breakthrough after seven minutes of action at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium. From a short corner, Swansea striker Bradley Gibbings was able to nip in and turn the ball home, giving the away side an early advantage.

However, the Bluebirds dominated the half after falling behind, and created a number of good chances to get back on level terms. Isaak Davies and Rubin Colwill both went close within a minute of each other, seeing headed opportunities saved by Swans goalkeeper Jamie Searle. Despite their pressure, City were unable to find a leveller before the break, going in at the interval a goal behind.

Steve Morison gives instructions to his team at half-time...
Morison’s men were by far the better side at the start of the second period, and had a golden chance to equalise through Davies. Owen Pritchard picked out the forward with a superb ball which split the Swansea defence, though Davies was unlucky not to convert from close-range, under pressure from keeper Searle.

The away goalkeeper was called into action yet again soon afterwards, providing a magnificent double-save to prevent Colwill and Davies. Searle was first able to parry a powerful strike from City’s impressive midfielder, and then displayed fine reflexes to keep out Davies’ follow-up effort.

However, the Bluebirds did find their deserved equaliser after 67 minutes, with right-back Taylor Jones finding the back of the net. Kieron Evans curled an inviting free-kick into the area, which bounced around the penalty spot and fell kindly to Jones. The 17-year-old made no mistake with the finish, rifling past Searle to put City back on level terms.

Taylor Jones celebrates his equalising goal...
With 15 minutes to go, another superb delivery from Evans provided City’s second, as skipper Jack Bodenham powered home. Another free-kick, this time from the opposite flank, was driven towards the back post, with the towering defender able to apply an excellent headed finish into the roof of the net, turning the match around.

The visitors were reduced to ten men for the final few minutes, with Scott Butler picking up a second yellow card for an unnecessary lunge on the hard-working Davies. The numerical advantage worked in City’s favour, as Morison’s side were able to keep possession of the ball and nullify any chance for a Swansea equaliser.

The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought South Wales derby victory for the Bluebirds, who move onto ten points and leapfrog their opponents in the Professional Development League South table. City’s next U23 fixture comes on Tuesday, 2nd February, when league leaders Ipswich Town visit the Welsh capital.

Just had a look through this "very young" Swansea side, and to be fair there isn't much of a difference. Yes 2 17 year olds but the rest were 18, 19, 21 age bracket similar to what we had out.
In all fairness I really enjoyed the game, we played some nice passing football.
It won't happen overnight, but we need to be patient and "support!" Im sure the club in time will benefit from our Academy more than it has done in the past.
Some good promising players out there today, Zimba and Colwill stood out for me.
