The miserable Cardiff City player ratings as midfield struggles in QPR defeat but debutant offers slight hope
By Glen Williams

Here is how each Bluebirds player rated in the clash with QPR

Alex Smithies 6
Made a couple of comfortable gathers and saves, which are never easy in the howling wind and rain. Might be a tad disappointed to let the goal underneath him, but perhaps that is harsh. Top save to deny Macauley Bonne late on.

Perry Ng 6 (star man)
An assured debut from the defender. So composed on the ball, confident in taking players on and a heck of a shot on him. Did well defensively, too, stuck his head in bravely to deny Charlie Austin a goal. A positive from the evening.

Sean Morrison 5
Important to have the skipper back, at both ends of the pitch. A welcome return, but was also caught dawdling with the ball once or twice. Still working his way up to fitness and sat off Willock for the goal.

Curtis Nelson 5
Lyndon Dykes and Charlie Austin are two very good strikers at this level and he did well to keep them both in check for the most part. But should have closed down Willock, as he was the closest man to him, for the goal.

Joe Bennett 5
Was a largely assured display for the most part, but again part of the defensive crumble around the goal. Was an outlet on the left, barring that, though.

Will Vaulks 4
Played at the base of a diamond and it suited him in many ways. Marshalled the back four and could play his big, crossfield passes. Was part of an ineffective midfield, though, and played some sloppy passes.

Leandro Bacuna 4
Good to see him back in midfield, sprinting up and down. But he didn't have the desired impact and didn't make too many waves at the top end. Struggled to settle into his role in a peculiar position on the right-hand side.

Joe Ralls 4
Made a couple of really good passes and engineered a few attacks with cute balls in behind, but too few and far between. Really not enough given his more advanced role. A few aimless balls down the channels gifted possession away.

Harry Wilson 5
His trickery drew a couple of fouls and yellow cards as he nicked past defenders. Still waiting for that match-winning shot or pass, though. To his credit, he did play some dangerous balls through late on.

Max Watters 4
Another debut handed out by Neil Harris. A little bit quiet, made some nice runs in behind but has a way to go before that link-up with Moore is really in sync. Hooked before the hour. More to come from him, so be patient.

Kieffer Moore 6
Makes such a big difference when he is back. He is the focal point for practically every City attack and tries to link play with everyone. Miscontrolled the ball for a big chance late on.

Subs
Mark Harris (on for Watters 55) 4 - Ran hard, but didn't really make much of a difference when he came on.

Sheyi Ojo (on for Vaulks 75) 4 - Nothing of note really.

Robert Glatzel (on for Ng 75) 4 - Same as above.

Josh Murphy (on for Wilson 85) NA.

I think I do.

Midfield the weak link.

Moore useful but frustrated.

One new debutant had a good game and will be a regular (and a fan favourite).

The other probably needs more time.

We saw more from Murphy in his 5 mins than most who played 90.

Add a rating for Harris. 2. 1 point for sitting in the rain, another for turning up.
