' 10-day transfer window '

There are just 10 days to go until the winter transfer window closes. Not ideal, obviously, but it does give City an opportunity to bring in players.

Max Watters and Perry Ng (a penny for their thoughts) were signed in the last past week but it appears that although Harris was happy with their arrivals, the board were heavily behind both deals and were even thought to be the ones who originally wanted them.

McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor will have no doubt have done their homework on Cardiff’s squad ahead of their decision to move to south Wales, so will probably already know what they need.

Whether they will get what they want is another matter. A centre-back has been mooted, with Bournemouth’s Jack Simpson the man in question, but a more creative central midfielder in the engine room would perhaps be more beneficial than any other signing this month.

In the next week and a half McCarthy must assess his squad and identify areas where he feels extra quality is needed.

Due to the nature of McCarthy’s contract one would suspect that short-term deals will be the order of the day, but the right men could provide the Bluebirds’ squad with a positive shot in the arm for the second half of the season.

Central midfielder, pacy winger and a no nonsense centre back. That’ll do
