Wondering whether they were committee signings based on McCarthys judgement

You do know that Harris was part of the commitee?
VT Dalelm Choo and Harris!

Yes but who knows, by that stage he was outvoted maybe?

One of the best right backs in League 1 and a young striker with the best goal to game ratio in League 2. Of course it comes with risk, but it also comes with great potential in two position we needed strengthening. I would argue Harris would have fully supported the signing, hence them both starting the first game available.

We haven’t a right back for most of the season,we desperately someone in this window whether Harris or McCarthy would have been in charge.NG seems a good choice
As for Watters it’s having a punt trying to find a gem.

Re: Ng and Watters

I’m not knocking the quality of the signings or indeed the thinking behind them, just wondering what (if any) was Harris’ input.

Re: Ng and Watters

No point wondering now, Harris is gone, it's done, let's look forward and work with the players we got

Re: Ng and Watters

I thought Ng looked good for what it’s worth. Only one game but he didn’t look out of his depth.

Ssshhhhh that would show people that our club is actually running like a proper football club and would go against the Tan bash agenda .

Truth is hardly any managers have the final say at any club. They just make recommendations to a board and a club will try to achieve them. If not then they go to the second/ third / fourth choice or look at what the scouting networks have recommended

People seem to think managers hold the cheque book . They don't.

i would imagine it varies club to club and possibly from one transfer to another.... but i agree all this cherry picking is a bit nuts... its not like anyone actually knows who had the most to say about a certain player ..

Klopp was asked about a transfer...i posted his reply above as an example of it not always being what some people might think.... not that it will stop guessing and blaming...

Correct Roger.

Harris and Tan both were involved big time in their signings

Big Mick 100% nothing to do with the signings

Re: Ng and Watters

Sat Jan 23, 2021 5:12 pm

I mentioned something similar to this on another thread, because surely they knew Harris was on his way out and waiting for the new manager to choose players seemed like a realistic option. Perhaps they thought the opportunity was too good to miss having done their homework, given the relatively small cost involved and the potential of the players involved.

NG looked at home (maybe perpetuated because we’ve become accustomed to a central midfielder playing at right fullback) and Watters looked like a work in progress, although one game is hardly a fair reflection of ability. I’m looking forward to both players developing their games and hopefully having successful careers at Cardiff City. :bluebird:

I don't think anyone is bleating mate - just a genuine interest in who recommended the signings. You have to think they were Harris's players given they went straight into the side. I happen to think they will be good long term signings and NG in particular will play an important part in balancing the side between now and the end of the season.

Big Mick 100% nothing to do with the signings

It's a strange one this as Harris seemed to imply that Watters was signed by the board not him when he said he " supports the signing ".

Normally a manager would say he's been interested for a whilst or he's happy he got it over the line.

Not sure Tan would be too involved other than giving the final go ahead with the money. He was more likely scouted and recommended to the club then Harris was told we were signing a young league 2 prospect to add to the squad.

Not sure about that Thomas.

When we signed Velikonja Malky said "Etien is a player who I tried to sign once before and keenly followed his progress with Maribor.”

Then when sacked said he had nothing to do with it.

Malky was a yes man who said what needed to be said for the club whilst he was here . Once he left he didn't have to toe that same line. He was trying to distance himself away from a mistake.

Thomas, Harris did and I got slammed for saying it

Re: Ng and Watters

We desperately needed a right back and Ng was one of if not the best in the lower divisions even if Harris knew nothing about him it was a good signing as he was so needed. On the evidence of his first game he will have absolutely no problems playing at championship levels. The service to Watters was so appalling it was impossible to make a judgement on him. We need a proper goalscorer in the Chopra McCormack mode and he might well be it. One of McCarthy tasks will be to figure out how to get the ball to him. Mark Harris is just not a genuine goalscorer for me he does not have any of the instincts of a natural striker making runs into the box, getting into positions to be on the end of a cross or pass.Thats why he scored so few goals on loan to Port Vale Newport and Wrexham.

I sort of like Harris he has lots of technical ability and can pass the ball. I wonder if he could be converted into some sort of attacking midfielder. He certainly isn't going to be a striker at this level or probably any good level if his spell at Wrexham is anything to go by.
