:bluebird: :bluebird: “ BIG MICK McCARTHY TODAY UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Tuesday 23rd February 2021

MICK McCARTHY:

Any knocks and bruises?

A few tired legs from Saturday, but nothing really. Junior Hoilett trained yesterday. Joe Ralls today.

It’s just bumps and bruises, but nothing that will keep them out.

Mick McCarthy

Experience counts for a lot with managers?

MICK McCARTHY:

I’m glad it’s recognised! In any other industry, experience does count for a lot.

When it doesn’t go right for us then we ‘haven’t bought into the new culture’, this and that.

But when clubs aren’t going well they call in one of us experienced ones to come in.

Why do younger coaches want to come to older coaches and ask them?

If experience wasn’t valuable we would all be finished, wouldn’t we?

We are trying to create a good atmosphere in the place.

MICK McCARTHY:

Same again on Wednesday?

Yeah! That’s where we are at. They are coming thick and fast, it’s hard to do anything else. If it’s working, don’t change it.

Same performance. If you perform well, you’ve got more chances of winning games.

MICK McCARTHY:

What are they doing now that they weren’t before?

I don’t know. I wouldn’t comment on that, that’s always unfair.

I only know that from day one they have worked hard. They have played the way they play and that system, they have bought into everything that’s asked of them.

They’ve had to graft.

Not too long ago they were 2-0 down at Barnsley, they showed great character and carried that on.

Just a great togetherness and the willingness to work hard.

MICK McCARTHY:

Bournemouth, side everyone is trying to catch, occupying the last play-off place, more pressure on this game?

I don’t think so. There has been pressure on every game.

If we went to Bristol City, if we lost that we could have been 17th, that’s the difference in this league.
I’m not putting pressure on anybody.

If we win more than them we will catch them.

Just by playing them tomorrow, we have got 14 after that, it’s what happens at the end of the season, not tomorrow.

MICK McCARTHY

Took the front three out of firing line with a view to this game?

Of course. You get a day extra to prepare for this one and a day less for Saturday, travelling to Middlesbrough.

It’s physically demanding so it’s good to get a bit of a break.

It was good to get fresh legs on, Mark Harris comes on and scores his goal within a minute!

MICK McCARTHY:

Helps when you have Kieffer Moore!

Absolutely!

It also helps when four of them contribute on Saturday. It’s all well and good having that one goalscorer.

But you need the rest of them contributing, that was great on Saturday.

On Jonathan Woodgate

MICK McCARTHY:

It’s a bit more common now (until the end of season).

He is a vastly experienced player at a number of good clubs. Apart from tomorrow, good luck to him!

Nigel Pearson at Bristol City, been around the block all of you?

MICK McCARTHY:

Maybe. Maybe people are having a look at our results here and think the experienced guys know what they are doing and they do have a role to play.

All I hear when a new job comes up is that new managers with new ideas should get it.

Nigel did well at Watford, kept Leicester up from an almost impossible position.

Warnock, last year, he took Boro until the end of the season.

The only difference between us lot and Woodgate is about 30 years!

I’m cool with my hair, my big nose, my experience, I don’t give a flying…

It’s about being at a football club and getting results.

I’m sure Nigel is and I know Warnock is!

MICK McCARTHY:

Bournemouth, respect them?

Yes. I’ve got the team in front of me here. It’s a very, very good squad of players they have got.

They started really well and just had a bit of a blip.

Jonathan has had some good results. Apparently not played well, who is bothered?

Being in the top six that brings pressure because you don’t want to drop out of it. When you get in there the pressure comes.

But that’s a really good squad of players.

Does this represent the toughest test for you?

MICK McCARTHY:

I would say so. Barnsley, Luton, Coventry, all in and around us.

In saying that, all those teams, playing teams around us there was more pressure then because we were looking at relegation.

We would have been in dire straits against Bristol if we lost.

It’s a good test for us, a different test against a stronger squad and more fancied than some others.

But none of the games were easy, I’ll tell you that.

Dillon Phillips, what did you make of it?

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=220663 :bluebird: :bluebird:

MICK McCARTHY:

Dibs (Andrew Dibble), they were teasing him afterwards, he pulled out his list. I gave him a pat on the back!

They are very detailed. Goalkeepers are because it’s a specialised position.

The last 25 minutes at 2-1 would have been a tough old ask! Their tails would have been up and we would have been feeling sick!

Problem now, in goal, two great keepers?

MICK McCARTHY:

Great, isn’t it?! That’s the best dilemma for a coach. Two players fit and well who want to play.

Alex understands, I told Dibs I wasn’t changing the team.

Dillon has been great, that’s just the way it is. One of them has got the shirt at the minute.

Alex has been great, very supportive. He will understand. I haven’t asked him, I know he doesn’t like being left out!

I haven’t got any favourites. Why on earth would I change it?

Some talk of fans coming back, how much would you welcome that?

MICK McCARTHY:

It would be fabulous!

They have been sorely missed. I did co-commentary when I was out of work. When I’m stood on the sidelines I’m not as bothered, but in comms it is very strange.

We all want fans to be back in, they make it what it is to be honest.

You said you had unfinished business in the Premier League, when do we start talking about it?

MICK McCARTHY:

Is that what I said?

We are always wanting to do as well as you can. You start thinking you want the play-offs then you get to Bournemouth and get slapped and people call it a flash in the pan.

Let’s just try and win the game and see where we are at.

MICK McCARTHY:

If you come through this test, the momentum and confidence would feel like last season?

I hope we emulate that!

There is a different feel to this game of course. We can get into the play-offs if we win it.

The last thing they want to do is drop out of the top six.

That momentum has come on the back of good performances.

Play as well as we can and if we do, quite clearly we have the ability to win games. It’s a huge game for us.

" SO ONCE AGAIN WE HAVE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO NEIL WARNOCK "

Fair play Warnock saved us from relegation / then got us promoted / brought in well over £200 Million to our Club & left us with some very good players.

We know Warnock made a few bad transfers, but the Success Warnock brought to our club, followed by the money which he brought in which also saved this season with parachute payments, far out weighs any bad transfers :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

And now thanks to Neil Warnock, telling Big Mick McCarthy about us and saying to him we were the type of club that would suit him and then highly recommending Big Mick to Dalman/Choo and saying "if you want to avoid relegation asap then the perfect person for the job is Mick McCarthy and he can do it without any money " :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Tan was not interested at all, but due to the final game v QPR under Harris where apparently Harris exploded on the the team and everything turned upside down in the dressing room, then followed by our 6th consecutive defeat, Tan was told to look at hard at the Championship Table, we were really staring at the bottom 3, with Rotherham 5pts behind behind us, 2 games in hand and having to play us and the way we were, the odds were we would of been beaten by them.

Tan was told the value of our club would be immediately cut in half if we were relegated.
Tan was all for Neil Harris and was determined to keep him, but his hands were forced to get rid and thankfully his hands were forced by the QPR defeat and in came BIG MICK, not only has Big Mick saved us from a relegation battle but put us on the verge of the play-offs :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Big Mick said, he only had a minutes conversation with Tan, so never really discussed anything, he just got straight in to the job and performed miracles making these players believe in themselves, bringing unity and changing our style of play and 2 draws, followed by 5 consecutive wins :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I bet we start hearing from Tan now

Also lets not forget Big Micks backroom staff, Assistant Manager Terry Connor,:thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

But Neil please let us have the 3pts this Saturday  :thumbright: :bluebird:

Re: BREAKING MICK McCARTHY: ' TUESDAY 23RD FEBRUARY 2021 '

Postby Forever Blue » Tue Feb 23, 2021 10:23 am

12pm on the radio Monday:

Tan should of been honest and said it was Neil Warnock who got them Mick McCarthy.

Also Tan was originally against the appointment of Big Mick.

Many City fans were also against it as well.

UPDATED:

VINCENT TAN:

"I am very happy, very happy, Mick McCarthy has done a great job in a short while, we are very happy, hopefully we can do better."

"Mick has done well and all his boys, i prey we do it this time to the Premier, We are blessed, everyone wants to be promoted."

"Mick came highly recommended, so we thought we give him a chance."

"Last season our former manager Neil Harris did well and got us in the play-offs, this season he did not so well, so we had to make a change."

"Of course (this needs) everybody's co-operation and the team have stepped up very well under Mick's leadership.”

"Hopefully we can do better, hopefully we can get into the play-offs."

Presenter Jim White then interjected, saying: "That is what you want, you want to get to the Premier League, don't you Vincent?"

"Of course we pray we will be able to get there," Tan responded.

"You never know. For example, last season we were also in the play-offs, Neil Harris, our former manager did a great job last season.

"Unfortunately this season he didn't do too well so we had to do a change, and I believe I feel good, that Mick is doing a great job and I believe we have a good chance to get into the play-offs.

"If we are blessed, we hope to be promoted, I'm sure everyone would like to be promoted."

"A lot of negativity from our fans when we appointed Mick, but now they are supporting him, so i thank you all."

"I prey we get promoted."

talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan agrees, and believes McCarthy is well placed to replicate fellow Yorkshireman Neil Warnock's success in getting the Bluebirds back into the Premier League. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy issues fitness update ahead of 'huge' Bournemouth game

The Bluebirds head into Wednesday night's clash with a view to usurping the Cherries in the play-off spots

Tuesday 23rd February 2021

Cardiff City are set to welcome back Junior Hoilett for what Mick McCarthy has called the toughest game of his Bluebirds tenure.

A number of key players have been absent in recent weeks, with the likes of Isaak Davies and Rubin Colwill named on the City bench, with the latter making his debut in the win over Coventry City.

But Saturday's 4-0 thumping of Preston North End saw the welcome inclusion of Jonny Williams and the return of Sheyi Ojo as the Bluebirds' squad continues to look stronger with each passing week.

Now, Hoilett is in contention for Wednesday night's clash with Bournemouth, having missed the last three fixtures with a calf issue.

Joe Ralls, though, is still not fit enough and might not even be ready for the weekend.

MICK McCARTHY:

"There are few tired legs from Saturday, but nothing really," McCarthy said. "Junior Hoilett trained yesterday. Joe Ralls will train today.

"It’s just bumps and bruises, but nothing that will keep them out."

McCarthy also said that Jordi Osei-Tutu is targeting the week beginning March 6 for his reintegration with the first-team squad, while Lee Tomlin is set to turn out for the under-23s for the second time in as many weeks on Tuesday afternoon as he steps up his recovery.

It is all seemingly heading in the right direction for the Bluebirds, who will need to utilise all of their squad as they head into the business end of the season.

Ahead of Wednesday night's game, City are just three points behind sixth-placed Bournemouth and a win would displace the Cherries in the play-off spots.

That is almost unthinkable given where Cardiff found themselves just a few short weeks ago, but following a string of positive results - two draws and five wins - the Bluebirds are now in punching distance of the top six and McCarthy wants that momentum to carry them forward and copy last season's feat of reaching the play-offs.

"I hope we emulate that," McCarthy said of last year's end-of-season charge to the play-offs.

"There is a different feel to this game, of course. It's a big game and we can get into the play-offs if we win it.

"But, equally, the last thing they want to do is drop out of the top six, Bournemouth. I understand the feelings from both clubs.

"I keep stressing that all we can do and the momentum that we have has come off the back of good performances.

"Play as well as we can and if we do, quite clearly we have the ability to win games in this league. It’s a huge game for us."

McCarthy said just a few weeks back that he had "unfinished business" in the Premier League, whether that comes with promotion this season or not remains to be seen.

However, there will be no getting carried away ahead of what the manager agreed was his "toughest test" so far

"I'm not going to tell a lie, you always want to do as well as you possibly can.

"You start thinking you can get in the play-offs then you get to Bournemouth and get slapped and people call it a flash in the pan.

"So I don't get carried away with it at all. Let’s just try and win the game and see where we are at.

"I'm in no way thinking about being in the Premier League."

Should City beat Bournemouth and move into those top-six spots, though, and thousands of fans in the Welsh capital will doubtless be daring to dream.

Big Mick on Robert Glatzel: ‘I was more than happy to play Mark Harris instead or involve Rubin Colwill. I’m glad he’s gone out there and he’s scoring. It’s good for him and good for the club in terms of his value. For next season, I don’t know what I’m doing yet, so it doesn’t bother me.’

Sky Sports:

Warnock was on sky yesterday saying he had set the way for Mick McCarthy to get the job at Cardiff City :bluebird:
& Vincent Tan in the morning stated without saying Warnocks name(lol) that Mick had been highly recommended to them.

Mick McCarthy held a pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday evening's trip to AFC Bournemouth (7:45pm, Cardiff City TV).

Unbeaten in his Cardiff City tenure and with five wins on the spin, Mick began by praising the spirit of his Bluebirds troops.

MICK McCARTHY:

"They've bought into everything that we've asked of them," he began. "But certainly they've had to graft for it.

"It's not too far away we were 2-0 down at Barnsley. I just thought they showed a great attitude there and that's been continued all the way through.

"We've got talented players. I'm not teaching them how to play football, that's for sure, because we've got good players and experienced ones.

"But there just seems to be a togetherness, a real good team spirit and a willingness to work hard. Then, if you do that, the ability will come through."

Saturday's win over Preston North End saw four City players get on the score-sheet, but Mick was keen to give credit to the Bluebirds' goalkeeping department following Dillon Phillips' superb penalty saves.

"Dibs [Andy Dibble] got a warm round of applause," he continued. "He said that goalkeepers don't get too much credit, but they did on Saturday!

"They're very detailed and we're all very detailed in what we do in terms of reports on players.

"Goalkeepers are particularly so because it's very specialised position and we have to give them credit where it's due.

"It was brilliant to save the pair of them. It's very rare but if you do see a second penalty given, they usually score them and Dillon defied that. I have to say, I'm glad he did because the last 25 minutes at 2-1 would have been a tough old ask."

A victory at the Vitality would put City level on points with the sixth-place Cherries, but Mick finished by explaining why his players won't feel any additional pressure in the contest.

"There's been pressure on every game," he continued. "When we went to Bristol City, if we'd lost that we could have been 17th. That's the difference in this league.

"I'm not putting pressure on anybody. I said keep performing the way we're performing and we've got a better chance of winning games. Then, if we win more than them, we'll catch them.

"But we've got 14 more after this so playing them tomorrow doesn't really matter – the performance matters and then we'll see what happens with the result. It's the end of the season that matters, not Thursday morning."
